NYC’s Monobloc Share New Single “Irish Goodbye”

Monobloc by Julia Tarantino

NYC’s Monobloc continue their winning streak today with the release of their latest single “Irish Goodbye”.

Adding to their quickly evolving discography, today’s release explores the social stresses of being young in a new city, eschewing the sound of their two singles previous for one that embodies instead a tense no-wave and post-punk complexity and charisma. Brief but incredibly intricate, “Irish Goodbye” is a driving, propulsive track that sees the band reaching new sonic heights.

Monobloc share a self-directed video for the track, again shot in New York City and self-directed by the group.

“In the fall of 2022, I was religiously watching this live video of Eric Burdon and War performing Spill The Wine,” said lead vocalist Timothy Waldron. “I was new to the city and still finding my crowd, ducking and dodging strong characters at every turn. I was in too deep with my odd jobs. I was falling in and out of love with it all. This song slipped out.”

The band’s first two singles, “Where is My Garden” and “I’m Just Trying To Love You”, presented a band who arrived fully-formed, pushing the envelope with forward-thinking guitar arrangements and widescreen melodies. The debut songs were lauded by press internationally, including a digital cover at Dork and support from NME, Rolling Stone UK, DIY, So Young and more.

Monobloc’s live ambition has seen the band busy across the summer, including a slot in support of LCD Soundsystem at All Points East, a feverish performance at Rock En Seine and a sold-out residency at Manhattan hotspot Pianos.

The band will return to UK in November for debut headlining shows in Manchester and London, as well as further upcoming international appearances at Corona Capital Festival, Iceland Airwaves and the inaugural United Sounds NYC Festival.

Soaring out of the underground of New York City’s booming DIY scene, Monobloc, helmed by vocalist Timothy Waldron and Michael Silverglade on bass, is an exciting new project formed by two friends with a shared ear for merging pop sensibilities, with a distinctly metropolis post-punk attitude.

Creators of the viral Minecraft music festival Block by Blockwest, Waldron and Silverglade were inspired to form Monobloc as a way to fully refine their sound without limits.

Completed by Zack Pockrose on drums, and guitarists Ben Scofield and Nina Lüders, Monobloc’s strengths lie in their innate gift of storytelling; pairing texturally rich, visceral and emotional detail, with a minimalist instrumentation that sits as confidently alongside some of NYC’s artistic greats, as it does in its own lane entirely.
