Search Results – Information Blip LP (Blowtorch Records)

Search Results, a dynamic trio from Dublin, is reshaping the contours of the Irish post-punk and alternative rock scene with their debut LP, “Information Blip.” Comprising Fionn Brennan on guitar, Jack Condon on drums, and Adam Hoban on bass, this band brings a unique blend of punk and garage rock influences to the fore, inspired by iconic acts like Parquet Courts and The Velvet Underground. Having formed in 2019 and spent much of the pandemic honing their sound, Search Results released “Information Blip” following their earlier EPs, “Mirrors” (2021) and “No Punchline Arousal” (2022). The album was recorded and mastered with Darragh Hansard of Thee UFO at the Orc’s Lair studio, ensuring a crisp yet raw auditory experience.

The album kicks off with “Enter The Blip,” an energetic introduction that sets the tone for what follows. The track features pulsating rhythms and layered guitars that weave a complex soundscape, immediately drawing listeners into the world of Search Results. “No Murder” maintains the momentum with its jangly guitars, driving bassline, and thought-provoking lyrics, showcasing the band’s ability to balance intensity with lyrical depth. Meanwhile, “Ounic Rick” and “Three” exemplify their flair for crafting catchy hooks that linger long after the music has stopped, blending rhythmic precision with vocal harmonies. “John. In A Raincoat” is a standout track that diverges slightly from the album’s predominant punk aesthetic, offering a more introspective take with its moderate tempo and atmospheric instrumentation. This track highlights the band’s versatility and willingness to explore different sonic landscapes. “In The Dermat’s Dermal Layer” follows suit, with abstract lyrics that invite multiple interpretations, set against a backdrop of intricate guitar work and driving percussion. “Visiting Years” and “Sleeping” close out the first half of the album, offering a moment of reflection amidst the otherwise relentless pace. These tracks provide a contrast to the earlier energy, with softer vocals and more subdued instrumentation that allow the lyrics to take center stage. The transition into “Sleeping” in particular demonstrates the band’s knack for creating seamless shifts in mood and tone.

Side B opens with “Flower Rock Rain,” which immediately re-establishes the album’s kinetic energy. This track serves as a powerful reintroduction, with a fast-paced rhythm and infectious chorus that captures the spirit of the band’s live performances. “Vat Jance” follows, offering a raw, unfiltered sound that feels both spontaneous and carefully crafted. The interplay between the guitar and bass lines is particularly notable here, creating a dynamic and engaging listening experience. “Shitfingers” and “Run Me Down” continue the exploration of post-punk themes with their driving beats and introspective lyrics. These tracks showcase the band’s ability to merge their punk roots with alternative rock elements, creating a familiar and refreshingly new sound. “Losings” introduces a melancholic edge to the album, with poignant lyrics and haunting melodies that evoke a sense of longing and introspection. This track stands out as an example of their lyrical skills and ability to convey complex emotions through their music. The stripped-back arrangement allows each instrument to shine, creating a rich and immersive soundscape. “Bottom” offers a return to the band’s more aggressive punk roots, with its moderate rhythm and jangly guitars. This track serves as a cathartic release, with its raw energy and defiant lyrics capturing the essence of the post-punk genre. The album concludes with “Reggie 2,” a synthy, noisy fitting finale that encapsulates the themes explored throughout “Information Blip.” With its catchy chorus and driving beat, the track leaves a lasting impression, inviting listeners to revisit the album’s intricate layers and hidden nuances.

“Information Blip” is a compelling debut that showcases Search Results’ unique voice within the contemporary music landscape. The band’s ability to expertly blend punk, garage rock, and alternative influences resulted in a nostalgic and forward-thinking sound. Through thoughtful lyrics, diverse instrumentation, and infectious energy, Search Results delivers an album that invites repeated listens and leaves a lasting impact. You can grab “Information Blip” on black vinyl via Blowtorch Records.
