Holy Hour – waizer

waizer” is the latest track by Holy Hour, an outstanding French quartet. It’s their second piece of work in 2024, arriving right after “crystal lake,” another excellent single worth checking out. This particular track also announces “alabaster” EP, slated for release later this year. Soundwise, Holy Hour continuously levitates between several different but complementary music genres. Perhaps indie rock comes to mind first, but you’ll notice how some of the finest properties borrowed from post-hardcore, post-punk, post-rock, noise rock, shoegaze, and many others lurk around. These stylistic incorporations allow them boundless experimentations, which sound fresh, unique, innovative, and majestic at the same time. Therefore, “waizer” will appeal to your listening apparatus no matter which music genre you prefer.

Lyrically, Holy Hour examines dualities in life. From sadness to joy, who’s wrong or right, the band contemplates these questions, helping the listeners to make the right decision. As we wrote before, their music also levitates between many styles, so this lyric content perfectly applies the sonic support. With the initial notes and beats, you’ll notice these folks are not joking around with their music. “weizer” arrives with a perfect song structure, garnered with many intricate segments, brilliant ideas, and outstanding instrumentations. Of course, the lead vocal performance is a centerpiece of this sonic equation, channeling profoundly philosophical lyrics with sincerity, confidence, and emotion. The impressive vocal range makes things even better by balancing low, mid, and high notes with such precision and finesse while emphasizing all the segments and instrumentations. In the meantime, the guitar interplay shapes an adequate backdrop for all the vocal articulations to shine upon.

You’ll notice how expertly arranged and flawlessly performed chord progressions and riffs resonate on one side while the other shines with catchy, memorable, engaging leads, themes, melodies, harmonies, and other sonic maneuvers. The equally intricate, audible, warm-sounding low-ends lurk beneath the guitar layers, offering heaviness, clearness, and deepness while binding all the orchestrations with drums. This track wouldn’t sound this good without the exceptional drumming performance. The experienced drummer delivers tastefully assembled, superbly performed, well-accentuated, and dynamic beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. He keeps everything in line while dictating the groove and pace. Holy Hour’s sound resonates with emotion and depth, allowing the listener to dive deep into contemplation while holding onto the finest indie and post-hardcore maneuvers the scene could offer right now. Their ideas and musicianship shine from scratch to finish while their fresh, unique, innovative style breaks all the rules and shapeshift boundaries of many music genres. You should put “weizer” and Holy Hour on your radar because they undoubtedly deserve your attention. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
