Glytsh – V.H.S. (Vulgar Holy Spirit)

After several outstanding singles, such as Closer, (Hard)core Memory, and SAV@GE, British/Swiss duo Glytsh returns with another exceptional single that will unquestionably appeal to all the fans of alternative metal. V.H.S. (Vulgar Holy Spirit) carries the sonic aesthetics of their previous works but also introduces some innovations in songwriting, composing, and producing. Therefore, you may expect the same powerful sound built upon the fundamentals of contemporary alternative metal, but will even more ingredients included along the way. You’ll stumble upon some of the finest properties of complementary music genres, such as post-hardcore, hardcore, emo, punk rock, grunge, industrial, and indie rock. Still, if you pay close attention while listening, you may discover even more styles. Of course, all these elements serve as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details that shape such a luxurious ambiance.

It’s nearly mindblowing how V.H.S simultaneously bursts with aggression and harmony from scratch to finish. Glytch achieved this by combining thoughtfully arranged riffs, ultra-heavy basslines, and robust rhythmic sequences with calmer, nearly cathartic segments where the band showcases some impressive indie rock, industrial rock, and electronic maneuvers. Each instrument plays a significant role in shaping a complex ambiance that will appeal to even the pickiest alternative metal fans. Of course, the lead vocalist demonstrates tremendous abilities by offering powerful screams and shouts, but also classic clean singing parts, especially hearable during the calmer segments of the song. V.H.S. has an ideal structure based upon skillfully assembled choruses, pre-choruses, and choruses, so the entire track shines with confident performance, balance, and consistency. There’s no doubt that Glytch put a lot of ideas, time, and effort while composing this song, so V.H.S. will unquestionably spark your interest to dive into the remainder of their discography. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
