Groove Vultures – What Happened To Lucy

Melbourne-based Groove Vultures recently released “What Happened to Lucy,” an exceptional composition that will unquestionably resonate with anyone even remotely in expertly composed and flawlessly performed rock music. “What Happened To Lucy” is their second single in 2024, arriving as an adequate follow-up of “Self-Destruct,” another marvelous display of their abilities as musicians and songwriters. The song also demonstrates what you might expect from their self-titled EP, now available on all streaming platforms. Soundwise, Groove Vultures combines some of the finest properties borrowed from several different but complementary music genres. Perhaps alternative rock comes to mind first, but you’ll notice how garage, punk, and hard rock found their way into this sonic equation. These skilled musicians use these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift their music to new heights while remaining loyal to the primary sonic directions. Anyone even remotely into writing and composing music knows that’s a hard task to achieve, but Groove Vultures manage this with such ease. Therefore, these experimentations with many different but complementary music styles resulted in a meaningful and energetic alternative rock track that will resonate with even those listeners stumbling upon these genres for the first time.

Although “What Happened to Lucy” lyrically deals with lost love and regret, the band assembled a highly energetic song where all the instrumentations resonate with immense power. With the initial notes and beats, you’ll realize these folks are not joking around, and clearly, they aim to deliver highly energetic, powerful rock music. The song has a perfect structure, garnered with many wisely arranged segments and impressive orchestrations. The exceptional drumming performance holds everything together while dictating the groove and pace with expertly assembled beats, breaks, fills, accentuations, and other acrobatics. The magnificent performance uplifts this track on an entirely new level, ensuring that the remainder of the band sounds precise from scratch to finish. In the meantime, equally intricate, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines roar beneath the guitars offering more than necessary support, heaviness, clarity, and depth while binding all the instrumentations with the rhythm section. Together, bass guitar and drums are a backbone for all the guitar and vocal performances to shine upon.

Groove Vultures included a comprehensive collection of catchy, engaging, memorable instrumentations, and layers of guitar interplays aren’t an exception either. You’ll notice how the heavy riffs resonate on one side while the lead shines with occasional sonic maneuvers, adding more depth and complexity to the song. These guitar layers sound divine from beginning to end, providing the perfect backdrop for all the vocal articulation. Speaking of the vocals, the impressive performance commands attention and guides the listeners through each segment by flawlessly balancing low, mid, and high notes. It’s nearly mindblowing how the lead vocalist emphasizes all the orchestrations while the occasional back vocals and singalongs immensely support particular segments. This composition showcases Groove Vultures’ abilities as songwriters and composers. Their tremendous experience, knowledge, skill, and talent are hearable during every moment, as they deliver one of the best alternative songs this year. With its rich and luxurious ambiance, “What Happened to Lucy” invites you to dive into their magnificent sound where each vocal, sonic, and rhythmic maneuver sounds divine. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
