Keegan Del Rio – Dwelling

Dwelling” is a new track by Keegan Del Rio, a Washington, DC-based singer-songwriter. It’s his first piece of work in 2024, arriving as an adequate follow-up to “Moonstone,” “Vines,” and “Counterpart,” three excellent compositions released in 2020 and 2021. However, his new song showcases many innovations in writing, composing, arranging, and producing. Soundwise, it carries many different but complementary music genres. Perhaps psych-rock comes to mind first, but you’ll unquestionably notice how some of the finest elements borrowed from psych-pop, dream pop, shoegaze, garage rock, alternative, and indie found their way in this sonic equation. He uses all these additional sonic ingredients as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift his latest single on an entirely new level while simultaneously remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction. Anyone even remotely into songwriting and composing music knows it’s a tricky task to achieve, but Keegan Del Rio handles this like a pro. Therefore, these experimentations with many different but complementary music styles resulted in a catchy, hypnotic, memorable psych-rock tune that will undoubtedly appeal to even the pickiest listeners.

With the initial notes and beats, you’ll notice that Keegan Del Rio thoroughly planned everything. “Dwelling” arrives with a perfect structure, stacked with many segments and garnered with impressive orchestrations. Each instrument plays a significant role here, allowing listeners to dig deep into all the sonic maneuvers and enjoy this fine piece of sonic artistry from scratch to finish. Keegan Del Rio’s outstanding vocal range commands attention and guides listeners by balancing low, mid, and high notes. These vocal harmonies emphasize all the segments and orchestrations, so a pleasant listening experience is more than guaranteed. In the meantime, the interplay between raw, abrasive, fuzzy, heavily distorted guitars shapes a perfect backdrop for vocals to shine upon. You’ll hear how the tastefully assembled, catchy chord progressions and riffs resonate on one side while the other shines with memorable leads, themes, melodies, and harmonies. The artist also incorporated marvelous synth leads, arpeggios, and ambiance for an extra dosage of calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal atmosphere. Also, these synth maneuvers add a touch of complexity to an already detailed song.

Of course, this song wouldn’t sound this good without the rock-solid rhythm section. You’ll hear how the equally intricate, audible, warm-sounding basslines lurk beneath all the mentioned orchestrations, offering more than necessary heaviness, depth, and clarity. Besides giving immense support, the bass guitar binds guitars and synths with drums. The excellent drumming performance keeps everything together while dictating groove and tempo with moderate, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Everything sounds top-notch from scratch to finish, and Keegan Del Rio thought about even the tiniest details and nuances. He proves once again that he’s a clever singer-songwriter whose knowledge, experience, skills, and talent shine during every moment. His brilliant ideas and exceptional musicianship resulted in a mesmerizing psych-rock song that will immediately grab your attention and refuse to let go. Therefore, check out this track as soon as possible. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
