Wotts - Laundry

Wotts is back with another fine piece of sonic artistry that will indulge listening apparatuses of those into cleverly assembled music. “Laundry” is the third piece of work in 2024 by this exceptional Canadian duo, arriving as a perfect continuation of “There” and “Petals,” previous tracks worth checking out. For those who missed our earlier writings about this outstanding band, Wotts combines fundamentals of indie rock music with subtle touches of post-punk, alt-rock, synth wave, shoegaze, dream pop, and indie pop. All these qualities are vividly hearable in this particular song, as they fully stack it with many marvelous ideas and impressive instrumentations.

This band never ceases to amaze me. With a perfect song structure, stacked with many detailed segments and catchy instrumentations, they navigate a calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal ambiance that will satisfy even those listeners stumbling on the mentioned music genres for the first time. The thoroughly planned layers unquestionably improve the listening experience by adding complexity and depth. However, “Laundry” is one of those easy-listening songs that immediately gets into your ears and refuses to let go long after it finishes. You’ll notice how cleverly arranged synth leads, themes, melodies, harmonies, ambiances, and other sonic maneuvers perfectly match catchy, semi-distorted chord progressions and riffs. The interplay between synth and guitars sounds mindblowing, as they together shape a perfect backdrop for vocals to shine upon.

You’ll immediately hear exceptional vocal performance conveying the message by balancing low, mid, and high notes with such precision and finesse. The whispery singing technique commands attention and guides you on this mesmerizing sonic voyage. Also, it’s good to mention that all the vocal harmonies match harmoniously with all the mentioned orchestrations, ensuring nothing but a wonderful listening experience. Wotts made a wise move and volumed up the low-ends like post-punk bands usually do. This decision brings heaviness, depth, and clarity to the song while simultaneously binding synths, guitars, and drums together. “Laundry” wouldn’t sound this good without an excellent drumming performance, based upon energetic, well-accentuated rhythmic structures and percussions. Besides dictating the groove and tempo, these drumming patterns are also responsible for keeping the remainder of the instrumentations in line.

Wotts is one of those bands who always deliver top-notch tracks to the table, and that’s the case with “Laundry.” They stacked this song with so many qualities borrowed from many music genres while remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction, so you’ll enjoy this number if you’re into indie rock, post-punk, synthwave, shoegaze, or any other similar style. Their ideas and musicianship go beyond comprehension during each moment, so a pleasant listening experience is more than guaranteed. You should put these guys on your radar because they undoubtedly deserve it. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
