Catch Myself” is a song by Nashville-based singer-songwriter Alias James. It’s a second single released in 2022, serving as an adequate follow-up of “Where You Used To Be” and “Hell (If I Don’t Cry),” two excellent compositions released in 2022 and 2021. Alias James is one of those promising artists that combines the singer-songwriter approach with some of the finest properties borrowed from many different but complementary subgenres like Americana, alt-country, alt-folk, folk rock, indie folk, indie rock, classic rock, etc. All these elements act as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details that undoubtedly uplift this song on an entirely new level, while the artist remains loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations resulted in a mesmerizing number that will undoubtedly appeal to even the pickiest alt-country fans and beyond.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice Alias James’ incredible vocal performance, emphasizing and decorating all the segments and orchestrations. His calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal vocal harmonies command attention and guide the listener by balancing low, mid, and high notes. He expertly recorded several vocal channels, so you’ll notice how the calmer notes resonate on one side, while the octave-higher maneuvers accentuate particular words, segments, and choruses. It’s good to mention that he paid attention to the vocal arrangements as much as he paid attention to the musical support, so you’ll be impressed by his incredible voice. You’ll notice how the guitars burst with marvelous instrumentations from scratch to finish. The interplay between acoustic and electric guitar acts as an adequate backdrop for Alias James’ engaging, addictive, hypnotic vocal articulations. Like the vocals, there are multiple guitar layers included along the way. You’ll stumble upon acoustic and semi-distorted chord progressions and riffs lurking around while the slide and electric guitar emit delicate accentuations, leads, themes, harmonies, and other sonic maneuvers. All these orchestrations are solely responsible for such an engaging, cathartic atmosphere that continuously lurks in every segment.

In the meantime, there are equally intricate, vividly audible, warm-sounding basslines roaring beneath all those guitar layers, offering more than necessary heaviness, depth, and clarity. The bass guitar also serves as a binding element between guitars and drums, so “Catch Me” wouldn’t sound this good without this particular instrument. You’ll also hear how the excellent drumming performance dictates groove and tempo with tastefully assembled, flawlessly executed, well-accentuated, moderate beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Alias James thought about even the tiniest details and nuances while writing, composing, and producing his third track, and “Catch Myself” still sounds fresh, even after a couple of years since the initial release. It’s one of those songs that showcases a profoundly creative singer-songwriter in action, pushing the boundaries of several music genres to deliver premium music to the audience. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
