Autosuggestion – Senseless

Senseless” is a new song by Autosuggestion, an exceptional Hull-based band. It’s their first single this year, serving as an adequate follow-up of “Deadpan” and “A New Slow,” two excellent tracks released in 2021. Still, this particular composition arrives with many innovations in writing, composing, arranging, recording, and producing. Soundwise, Autosuggestion is a specific sound based upon only the finest qualities of the eighties post-punk music. However, you’ll notice how they incorporated some different but complementary sonic ingredients to illustrate such rich and luxurious sonic imagery. Don’t be surprised if you stumble upon new wave, goth rock, psych-rock, art rock, and punk rock elements, because there are many along the way. Autosuggestion uses all these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift their outstanding new song on an entirely new level while they remain loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with different but complementary styles resulted in a mesmerizing number that will appeal to even the pickiest post-punk fans and beyond.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how “Senseless” continuously levitates between nostalgic and modern sound. Autosuggestion skillfully balances all the significant eras of post-punk, delivering nothing but premium ideas and exceptional musicianship to the table. They unquestionably planned everything, so you’ll hear how “Senseless” has a perfect structure with many segments shining with some of the best orchestrations in this music genre. The marvelous vocal harmonies command attention and guide the listeners by flawlessly balancing low, mid, and high notes. Also, it’s good to mention that this magnificent vocal performance emphasizes all the segments and instrumentations, making “Senseless” such a delightful listening experience worth repeating over again. Of course, the guitars play a significant role in this sonic equation by providing an adequate backdrop for all the vocal articulations. The interplay between rhythm and lead guitar will immediately knock you off the chair. You’ll hear how tastefully assembled arpeggiated and regular chord progressions resonate on one side, while the calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal leads, themes, melodies, and harmonies shine on another. It’s nearly mindblowing how guitars and vocals suit each other throughout the entire number.

Like in every good post-punk song, the bass guitar is vividly hearable in the mix, offering more than necessary heaviness, depth, and clarity. However, these expertly delivered low-ends also provide a dosage of complexity that makes “Senseless” even better. The drumming propels all the instrumentations to new heights with masterfully executed beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. These rhythmic sequences dictate groove and tempo while simultaneously keeping the remainder of the band in line. Everything sounds top-notch, and Autosuggestion thought about even the tiniest details and nuances. “Senseless” is one of those songs that will be right up your alley if you love post-punk music, but also demand something more of it. It’s more than clear these folks are experienced musicians who invested all their talent, skills, and ideas, resulting in a superb track that will immediately end up on your playlist. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
