Isaac Neilson – Flying

“Flying” is the latest single by Isaac Neilson, a Buxton-based singer-songwriter. It’s his first single in 2024 and an appropriate follow-up of “Dead Set Dance,” “Tear This Down,” “Deep As A River,” “On The Rails,” and “The Fall,” series of singles released during 2022 and 2023. Soundwise, Isaac Neilson combines a singer-songwriter approach with the fundamentals of several music genres like alternative, indie, and pop rock. You’ll immediately notice how some of the finest properties found their way into this fine piece of sonic artistry. The artist uses all these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other important details to uplift this composition on an entirely new level, while he simultaneously remains loyal to the primary sonic direction. These experimentations with different but complementary music genres resulted in an exceptional number that will appeal to all true alternative rock fans.

Isaac Neilson put a lot of effort into writing, composing, arranging, recording, and producing. You’ll hear how every vocal, sonic, and rhythmic maneuver has its place and purpose in this sonic equation. As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how his outstanding vocal performance acts as a centerpiece, emphasizing all the segments and instrumentations. The vocal harmonies perfectly balance between low, mid, and high notes and glide over all the orchestrations with such ease, providing more complexity and guiding the listener throughout. The artist gradually introduces mesmerizing piano leads, moderate beats, vocal harmonies, and clean and distorted guitars, preparing the listeners for a powerful and catchy chorus. It’s good to mention that the guitars play a significant role in shaping the backdrop for all the vocal maneuvers. The cleverly assembled chord progressions, riffs, melodies, harmonies, themes, and leads add more than necessary complexity alongside the piano, which also plays an important role here.

Of course, this composition wouldn’t sound this powerful without equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding low-end notes that offer heaviness, clarity, and depth, but also serve as a binding element between mentioned instrumentations and drums. The outstanding drumming performance keeps everything in line and dictates groove and tempo by delivering moderate, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. You’ll hear how this robust rhythm section serves as an adequate foundation for the other instrumentations. Every instrument has its place and purpose, and Isaac Neilson undoubtedly invested all his experience, knowledge, skills, talent, and ideas while assembling this song.

“Flying” is one of those perfect alternative rock songs that immediately grabs your attention and refuses to let go. It carries all the vital ingredients of the genre, but also combines some indie rock, indie pop, and singer-songwriter approach, making it profoundly unique. Isaac Neilson breaks all the rules and shapeshifts boundaries of these genres, so “Flying” will be right up your alley if you’re looking for a refreshing approach to alternative rock music. You should put this song on your radar as soon as possible. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
