Hound – The Ballad Of An Ageing Millennial

The Ballad of an Ageing Millennial” is the latest song by Hound, a Peterborough-based pop-punk band. It’s their second single that serves as an adequate follow-up to “Ghost In The Grey,” another excellent track released earlier this year. Soundwise, “The Ballad of an Ageing Millennial” embraces the fundamentals of modern pop-punk sound, but you’ll also notice how some other complementary music genres found their way into this sonic equation. Perhaps contemporary indie rock, emo, alternative, and rock come to mind first, but Hound is a versatile band that knows how to combine some other elements, so don’t be surprised if you stumble upon them along the way. They used all these additional sonic ingredients as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, and decorations to uplift “The Ballad of an Ageing Millennial” on an entirely new level while remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with various styles resulted in a catchy track that will appeal to even the pickiest pop-punk fans.

You’ll immediately notice how “The Ballad of an Ageing Millennial” resonates with that characteristic modern sound, with a subtle touch of late nineties pop-punk vibes. The exceptional vocal performance serves as a centerpiece, emphasizing all the instrumentations with a perfect balance between low, mid, and high notes. These vocal harmonies also decorate all the segments, giving that familiar pop-punk feel. You’ll also hear how the guitars shine with the exceptional themes, leads, melodies, and harmonies on one side, while the rhythm guitar bursts with heavily distorted, powerful chord progressions and riffs. Of course, this song wouldn’t sound this good without equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines that provide more heaviness, depth, and clarity. The outstanding drumming performance dictates groove and pace and keeps the remainder of the instrumentations in line with profoundly dynamic, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics.

Hound thought about everything while assembling their second single. “The Ballad of an Ageing Millennial” carries everything you ever needed from a modern pop-punk song and beyond, because these experienced musicians poured all their knowledge, talent, ideas, and musicianship into it. It’s a profoundly complex yet easy-listening composition where the intricate musicianship during the verses and anthemic choruses immediately grab your attention and refuse to let go. Hound prove they’re an exceptional band capable of assembling catchy pop-punk tracks that will become a staple on many playlists. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
