The Striggles – StriggCatMummy LP (Noise Appeal Records)

StriggCatMummy” is the third full-length album from the impressive The Striggles discography, released by Noise Appeal Records in 2011. It carries twelve exceptional compositions, separated on two hefty black vinyl records, and performed with precision, style, and finesse. For those who missed previous reviews, The Striggles combine noise rock sound with additional aesthetics borrowed from post-hardcore, post-punk, art-rock, and experimental rock. You should not skip their music at all because these folks always pour their best ideas, exceptional musicianship, skills, knowledge, and experience into their music. That’s the case with “StriggCatMummy,” another fine piece of sonic artistry that delivers nothing but a top-notch listening experience to the table.

The best part about this release is that The Striggles somehow delivered music that will sound fresh even after twelve years since they published it via Noise Appeal Records. The sound that meets all the criteria of modern music production, song structures, ideas, and musicianship that pushes the boundaries of several music genres makes the difference. The albums capable of resonating with the same intensity, dynamics, and power as once they appeared are a rarity nowadays, but the band did it with such ease. The key lies in their ability to merge some of the finest properties from early and mid-nineties noise rock, post-hardcore, art rock, and experimental with modern techniques, approaches, production, and ideas. The Striggles always thought outside of the box, and “StriggCatMummy” is as experimental as it gets.

However, unlike many other bands, The Striggles know when it’s enough. Perhaps they like experimentation to the point that some segments of their song sound weird, eerie, utterly aggressive, and obnoxious, but these decisions make a lot of sense when they return to classic jamming with the basic rules of the mentioned genres. Therefore, “StriggCatMummy” is a balanced material where their experimentations perfectly match regular instrumentations. Speaking of their instrumentations, The Striggles never cease to amaze with their musicianship. The vocals sound better than ever, the guitars sound tight from scratch to finish, and the rhythm section offers more impressive basslines and outstanding percussive acrobatics than you could ever imagine. They know how to assemble a perfect noise rock album where all their abilities will shine in the limelight, so “StriggCatMummy” will be right up your alley if you’re looking for a perfect noise rock album. “StriggCatMummy” is available as part of The Striggles vinyl bundle, so don’t miss it.
