ON – Gator

Gator” is the second single by the Canadian trio ON. It’s the second track this year that serves as an adequate follow-up to “Make Me,” another exceptional number these profoundly creative musicians released earlier this year. Known for their experimentations with several complementary music genres, ON once again combine elements of grunge, alternative, indie rock, and hard rock to illustrate rich and luxurious sonic imagery. What’s even more impressive is their ability to always deliver an entirely fresh and unique sound that somehow works together with the remainder of their discography. That’s the case with “Gator,” a song that breaks all the rules and shapeshift boundaries of mentioned genres.

ON know how to assemble perfect alternative/grunge songs where every instrument resonates with power, energy, and aggression. Still, they also included a decent amount of melody and harmony, making “Gator” a perfectly balanced composition suitable for even those newbies to the genre. Heavily distorted chord progressions and riffs, vividly hearable basslines, and outstanding drumming shape a luxurious ambiance from scratch to finish, leaving no room for mistakes. You’ll notice how the introductory theme gradually shapes the luxurious ambiance, while the outstanding vocal performance keeps the listener engaged with perfectly balanced low, mid, and high notes. The wisely arranged low-end notes stick like glue to the bass pedal, giving more detail and power to the song. Of course, this composition wouldn’t sound this good without exceptional drumming performance, based upon cleverly constructed, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other rhythmic maneuvers. Everything sounds top-notch from scratch to finish, so a pleasant listening experience is more than guaranteed.

ON assembled a perfect track that will appeal to all grunge, alternative, indie rock fans and beyond. They put all their experience, knowledge, skills, ideas, and musicianship into this song, and their effort resulted in a perfect song worth repeating over and over again. From a profoundly dynamic rhythm section and mesmerizing guitar work to the outstanding vocal performance that undoubtedly steals the show here, ON will immediately convince you to put this track among your favorites and revisit their discography. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
