Dirty Talons – Dirty Talons LP (Noise Appeal Records)

Dirty Talons, the emerging Austrian band comprised of former members of Astpai, presented their self-titled debut album as a versatile and genre-defying collection of songs. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Kvelertak, Baroness, Judas Priest, Van Halen, and Boston, Dirty Talons skillfully blend progressive rock, math rock, punk rock, and indie elements, whilst infusing their sound with a touch of seventies and eighties glam, hard rock, and classic rock. Led by Jess’s enchanting vocal performance, the band delivers a charismatic and sincere performance. Dirty Talons’ self-titled debut album showcases the band’s exceptional musicianship and knack for crafting infectious melodies, harmonies, and chord progressions. The guitars are particularly noteworthy, featuring engaging leads, captivating themes, and virtuosic riffs that effortlessly transition between heavy aggression and melodic finesse. The equally complex and warm-sounding basslines provide a solid foundation for the songs, highlighting the band’s sense of harmony and balance. The drumming, characterized by well-accentuated rhythmic sequences, beats, breaks, and fills, elevates the energy of the album, adding an extra layer of excitement.

Each track shines with the band’s collective experience, creativity, talent, brilliant ideas, and exceptional musicianship. The title track sets the tone for the album with its explosive guitar-driven intro and anthemic chorus. “Bang Bang” showcases the band’s ability to seamlessly amalgamate influences from various musical genres, featuring intricate guitar work set against a driving rhythm section. “Broken In Half” demonstrates Dirty Talons’ proficiency in creating dynamic and memorable songs, with its catchy hooks and adrenaline-infused energy. The album’s closing track, “Bottom Line,” provides a fitting conclusion, presenting a captivating blend of styles that ensures the album lingers in the listener’s mind long after the last note fades. Of course, the remainder of the album sound equally good with songs like “No Contest,” “Have Mercy,” “Mind Games,” and “No Holds Barred” as some of the highlights.

Noise Appeal Records once again did an incredible job. The album comes on solid viola vinyl, featuring a high-quality cardboard sleeve that enhances the overall aesthetic experience. Noise Appeal Records’ attention to detail further complements Dirty Talons’ music, making this release a true collector’s item. Dirty Talons’ self-titled debut album is an impressive musical journey that defies simplistic categorizations. With their wisely constructed fusion of complementary music genres, the band effortlessly combines punk rock, indie, progressive rock, and classic rock elements, while paying homage to the glory days of glam rock, hard rock, and classic rock. Led by Jess’s powerful and sincere vocals, Dirty Talons deliver an incredible showcase of musicianship, complete with stunning melodies, harmonies, and other guitar virtuosities. Each track on this album shines with creativity and talent, making it a must-have for rock music enthusiasts.
