ĠENN – unum CD (Liminal Collective)

ĠENN’s debut album, unum, is an exceptional work of art that seamlessly blends elements from various music genres. Combining alternative, indie, garage rock, post-rock, and post-punk, Janelle, Leanne, Sofia, and Leona created an album that honors and expands upon the best qualities of these genres. From the moment you hit play, ĠENN’s intent becomes evident. The four introductory singles, Rohmeresse, A Reprise (That Girl), Days And Nights, and Calypso, serve as a compelling glimpse into the captivating world of unum. These tracks are a masterclass in combining various musical influences without compromising the integrity of their sound.

Their poetic lyricism is distilled into clever vocal harmonies, enhancing the already catchy chord progressions and riffs. Each song feels carefully crafted, with intricate basslines and complex drumming complementing the overall ambiance. The drummer’s accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics add depth and layers to these songs, making them engaging and captivating. Throughout unum, it is evident that ĠENN is composed of highly skilled, imaginative musicians who excel at writing, composing, recording, and producing exceptional songs. Each track exemplifies their musical prowess and creativity.

Still, the remainder of the album also signifies the brilliance of the group. Their explorations into the vast universe of experimental, avant-garde, ethno, and world music only prove that Janelle, Leanne, Sofia, and Leona are not joking around with their sound. They creatively incorporated all their musical interests into every segment, with even the tiniest details being vividly hearable in the mix. Instead of merely borrowing from various genres, ĠENN incorporate elements of alternative, indie, garage rock, post-rock, and post-punk in their own distinct way. This fearless experimentation allows them to forge a musical identity that is uniquely their own. The album succeeds in capturing the essence of these music styles while pushing boundaries and exploring new sonic territories.

Moreover, unum presents a cohesive and well-sequenced collection of songs. The album flows seamlessly from one track to another, maintaining the listener’s engagement from start to finish. Each track feels purposeful and contributes to the overall narrative of the album. Unum is a remarkable achievement that showcases all their abilities as a band. From the catchy chord progressions and riffs to the complex basslines and intricate drumming, every aspect of their music is carefully crafted. This album exemplifies their skill, creativity, and musical vision. With unum, ĠENN set the stage for a promising future on the underground music scene.
