THE DROWNS have just released their new video for “Subculture Rock ‘N Roll” which comes from their recently released split with The Last Gang. The 7”, available in 3 different versions, is now available on the Pirates Press Records webstore.
The song demonstrates a more lighthearted side to The Drowns and was inspired by a huge influence of Rev’s. He explains: “I came up with the idea right after we finished the song. I’ve always loved the song “Rock N Roll Preacher” by Slade, and I thought ‘It would be hilarious to do a video where the band is dressed as preachers, but powered by the demon of rock n roll.’”
The video involved all of The Drowns’s friends from the Seattle area including local musicians, tattoo artists, and close friends. As for Rev’s alter ego in the video, he says “Maybe we’ll do some call backs! Lord knows we had fun making this one!”
The song itself is an homage to the sounds the band grew up with. “‘Subculture Rock ‘N Roll’ is our tribute to the music we love, and the modern sounds that have been coming around the last few years from other peers of ours. It’s just straight up, no-filter rock ‘n roll,” says Rev.
The Drowns just finished a European tour and are gearing up to play Punk in Drublic this coming weekend. Additionally, they had a club show appearance at Punk Rock Bowling in May where they shared the stage with the likes of The Chisel and The Beltones.
