Today, Innerlove (Long Island, NY) have announced their debut album, Roscoe, set for release on June 9th through Refresh Records. The record was self-recorded by the band in a secluded house in upstate NY and focuses on dealing with the changes that come into your life. Building off their indie and emo roots, the band work in elements of Americana to create a unique sound across the ten tracks. Opener and lead single, “Ain’t Who I Wanna Be,” out now, showcases Innerlove’s talent for creating dynamic songs with twangy vocals and inspiring tempo changes. The video for the song gives a behind-the-scenes look into the making of Roscoe and can be viewed here now.
Speaking on the lyrics, vocalist/guitarist Ryan O’Rourke states: “‘Ain’t Who I Wanna Be’ is mostly about how I became something I swore I’d never be. I have a problem dealing with negatives, I always have.”
Formed in 2019 in the wake of other projects, Innerlove is a collaboration of music and long-time friendship. The band made their debut in 2020 with the EP, Fine By Me, followed by a string of singles, evoking a bright and emotional sound. On Roscoe, the quartet has created an expansive sonic palette, drawing influences from artists like The Weakerthans, Weatherbox, Another Michael, and Anthony Green. Their first full-length feels like a real introduction, weaving country-tinged riffs and vocals with pop rock melodies and personable lyrics. The whole of it is a confident step forward for a band that’s always shown potential. It’s clear, after listening through the record, that this is exactly who Innerlove wants to be.
Roscoe is available for pre-save now through Refresh Records and physical pre-orders will drop next week.
