The Idle Silence – Close

If you paid close attention to these pages recently, you probably stumbled upon my writings about Dark Matter by The Idle Silence, a Taunton-based alternative/grunge quartet. The group returns with Close, another exceptional single that will unquestionably appeal to all the fans of alternative rock , garage rock, grunge, and indie sound. There are even some similarities with melodic punk rock, pop punk, and power pop because these creative musicians included many vital elements of these complementary styles. Therefore, their brand-new composition resonates with sheer power, energy, and dynamics combined with generous servings of melody, harmony, and pleasant ambiance that will immediately grab your attention.

You’ll immediately sense a resemblance between eighties indie rock and contemporary indie punk, but these guys also incorporated some of the best sonic maneuvers that define power pop sound. These qualities are probably mostly hearable deep down in the structure of this song, while the band remains loyal to their alternative rock roots through raw, abrasive, generously distorted chord progressions, riffs, equally detailed basslines, and energetic rhythmic structures. You’ll also notice how the lead vocalist perfectly pairs with these sonic maneuvers by delivering another layer of harmonies over the top. This combination of mellowness and aggressiveness are the signature moves of The Idle Silence, and bands capable of maintaining such ambiance are rare nowadays. Luckily, Close showcases how these polyphonic and rhythmic acrobatics work to the advantage of the band, which surprises with each new composition. You need to check out this single as soon as possible to comprehend the sheer brilliance of The Idle Silence. The track is available on all streaming platforms.
