Luke Frees – Strings

After countless singles, After The Rain EP, and three outstanding full-length albums, such as The Lost Weekend, Some Easy Blood, and Point Of You, Chicago-based artist Luke Frees returns with another exceptional composition that will appeal to all the fans of an indie rock sound. Strings are the fourteenth track in a row from a series of singles that Luke Frees launched in 2020 and a second composition this year. This particular number represents an appropriate continuation to Moonshine Queen. However, String leans more towards classic indie rock and showcases many innovations in terms of songwriting, composing, and producing. Besides indie rock, Luke Frees borrowed elements from complementary music genres, such as alternative, soft rock, and power pop. These sonic ingredients serve as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, and decorations that unquestionably uplift the ambiance of this number even more.

Of course, the first details you’ll notice are Luke Frees‘ calm, relaxing, soothing vocal harmonies that are undoubtedly a centerpiece of Strings. His exceptional vocal technics perfectly match the cathartic ambiance achieved with clean chord progressions, semi-distorted leads, warm-sounding basslines, and half-step rhythmic sequences. The artist paid attention to each detail, so you’ll notice how both guitar channels work together harmoniously while the heavy low-end tones provide more density and clarity to the beforementioned sonic maneuvers. You’ll also hear how these instrumentations shape that ear-appealing psychedelic rock atmosphere that helps Frees’ voice to shine even brighter in the mix. The artist also included harmonious guitar and sax solos that burst with progressive rock vibes. Of course, nothing would sound so dynamic without groovy beats supported by accentuations, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Strings sound exceptional from scratch to finish, and Luke Frees proved once again that he’s capable of delivering unique indie music that stands out from the works of other contemporaries. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
