Schreng Schreng & La La – Projekt 82 CD (Rookie Records)

I was completely unaware of the existence of Schreng Schreng & La La, but thanks to Rookie Records, that problem is immediately solved. Judging by their quality and exposure on social media, it’s so strange how I missed their music before. Schreng Schreng & La La is an acoustic punk rock duo consisting of Jörkk Mechenbier and Lasse Paulus. Both musicians are already active on the German scene for years, with Mechenbier being fully engaged to his primary group named Love A. Since their inception, Schreng Schreng & La La released dozen of recordings such as Berlusconi LP, The Cool Song EP, Echtholzstandby LP, and Alles Muss Brennen. Therefore, Projekt 82 is their latest full-length effort, which will be available both physically and digitally on March 26th.

Projekt 82 carries twelve energetic punk rock compositions, appropriately composed to suit the acoustic aesthetics. Nevertheless, there are a couple of tunes where Schreng Schreng & La La incorporate distorted or semi-distorted guitars, rhythmic background, or some percussion instruments. Still, a vast majority of the material levitates towards the beforementioned acoustic aesthetics. Besides being nearly entirely oriented towards punk rock sound, Schreng Schreng & La La also explore genres such as indie folk, indie rock, rock, and Americana. Still, these ingredients are dipping into the punk rock aesthetics, and you may hear their presence at particular points throughout the album. Both artists thoroughly planned this material, and Projekt 82 unquestionably sounds exactly like that.

Projekt 82 is one of those personal diaries, entirely supported by an appropriate music background. These compositions talk about different perspectives on life, friendships, relationships, particular moments, situations, and circumstances. Schreng Schreng & La La planned to release a comprehensive collection that leans towards political criticism but eventually decided to change the direction of an album and write something more intimate and personal. To be honest, they succeeded in their aim because these numbers resonate in such a specific manner. After all, there’s plenty of acoustic folk/punk rock albums ridden by political propaganda, so Schreng Schreng & La La hit right in the soft spot with these meaningful numbers about trials and errors of life.

Projekt 82 comes on both vinyl, compact disc, but you should also keep your eyes peeled on streaming services if you’re more into streaming music. I am positively sure you will solely enjoy the honest performance by this duo who roams the underground scene for more than a decade and performs meaningful acoustic punk rock tunes. Head over to Rookie Records for more detailed information about ordering this gem.
