pushbike Announce “Little Bastard EP”

Exeter’s pushbike today announce the “Little Bastard EP”, the band’s debut release for The Bird Records, the tastemaker label from Charlie Wayne of Black Country, New Road and Mita De. The group also share the first taster from it with a new single, the unbridled, noisily melodic “Pure Hate” paired with an exclusive B-side, “Captain On The Bridge”.

Formed with a love of cerebral indie-rock, second wave emo, hardcore, and power pop in equal measures, pushbike are a love letter to ’90s alternative guitar music, once being described as “a perfect mix between Teenage Fanclub and Cap’n Jazz.”

The band take their cues from the culture around Sarah Records, Cherry Red, C86 et al with the music indebted to the people and places that birthed them. Every band member is in at least 3 or 4 other bands (mostly all terrific though it’s hard to keep track – see Bramwell as a standout example). 

Though Exeter has never been particularly renowned for its alternative pedigree, the members of pushbike (amongst others) have used the main venue, The Cavern, as their base of operations and brought about a flourishing scene. They have different bands for different genres and they’ve a dedicated collective of musicians and artists in tow with zines, badges and other fledgling creative projects.

While earlier releases have seen pockets of attention, it’s with the brilliant, brief “Little Bastard EP” that they are surely readying themselves to reach a much wider audience.

The EP was recorded in Bristol with Jack Ogborne (The New Eves, Nina Winder-Lind, Naima Bock) and each song is a burst of immediacy and alternative rock wizardry, its runtime all over in less than ten minutes.

pushbike are a band’s band; raw, rip-roaring and DIY to the core. Built from a community of like-minded friends and rendered through crap pub PA’s, the “Little Bastard EP” is an ephemeral snapshot of a band on the brink. 

The Bird Records, alongside the band’s own label spinning sister, will also release the EP physically on a limited run of 10″ vinyl and cassettes.
