Voodoo Bloo – Jacobus LP

Voodoo Bloo is a brainchild of Wellington, New Zealand based mastermind Rory McDonald. Despite being very young, Rory is an already experienced musician who knew from the start how his band should sound and appear. Everything about his meaningful musical expression kicks directly in the head with perfect assemblage, precision, thoughtfulness, and depth. Recently, he released a debut full-length recording named Jacobus, which was heavily promoted by a series of singles such as MMA, Her Name Was Human, and Ha Ha Ok Ok. Right from his first appearance with MMA, it was more than clear his album will sound incredibly good.

Jacobus is more than a simplistic rock album, drenched in the same old sonic articulations that are defining this particular genre. McDonald contributes his version of alternative rock, which is more suitable for the contemporary music scene than it may sound after the first hearings. Besides predominant foundations of alternative rock, McDonald includes elements of indie rock, punk rock, post-punk, goth, hardcore, sludge metal to accentuate particular segments of his compositions. You may think that these elements would not work well together, but the entire Jacobus sounds pretty awesome. McDonald calculated each moment throughout the complete album and arranged his compositions in such a specific order, so they could provide loads of entertainment from scratch to finish.

This material balances between calmy melancholic moments, fully stacked with beautiful melodies, but all of a sudden transforms into giant slabs of bone-crushing noises. Each number provides an pleasant comforting to the listening apparatus but also slaps directly in the face when you need blistering dynamics the most. Besides being a remarkable musician, Rory Mcdonald is also an exceptional songwriter who deals with emotional rollercoasters that are a necessary part of everyday life struggles. You can hear ferociousness, anger, urgency, desperation in his vibrant chants and screams, which are demanding your uttermost attention.

Jacobus is undoubtfully a marvelous piece of work by the musician who knows how to write, compose and arrange his songs with ultimate precision. Every composition delivers even more listening pleasures than a preceding one. Therefore, Voodoo Bloo will keep you completely focused and entertained throughout the entire album. Jacobus is available on Spotify, so make sure to check out this exceptional alternative rock album, fully stacked with loads of twists and turns, emotional rollercoasters, delicate melodies, and raw energy.
