The song’s accompanying video — directed by award-winning filmmaker Nadia Bedj (Tribeca Film Festival, Slamdance) and choreographed by Lilly Fridlyand (Princeton University Ballet) — features a man moving through the streets of NYC with a body he can no longer control, mimicking the song’s otherworldly sound. Watch the video below.
A highly anticipated follow-up to their two prior EPs for Kanine Records, Diary’s upcoming release incorporates elements of jangly indie rock, swirling shoegaze, hazy ’60s psychedelia, and Madchester’s dance-influenced beats. Co-produced by Ben Hozie (of Brooklyn band Bodega) and mastered by Kurt Feldman (The Depreciation Guild, Pains of Being Pure at Heart), Spiral Bound pairs memorable pop hooks and danceable grooves with dreamy, heady soundscapes, taking listeners on a journey from moody, atmospheric moments to sweet, buoyant jangle-pop.
Formed by longtime friends Kevin Bendis (lead vocals) and Chris Croarkin (guitar), Diary is rounded out by Adam Sachs (drums), Jessica Dye (vocals, guitar), and Yan Kogan (bass.) Having racked up widespread praise for their two prior EPs and previous singles — along with their highly energetic live show — the band’s long-awaited full-length offers listeners a deeper look into into their infectious, genre-defying sound.
Spiral Bound is available for pre-order here.
