When it comes to the modern music scene, it becomes difficult to pinpoint standout artists and bands when almost everyone sounds so good. Each day, we are treated to brand-new releases that bend all possible rules of songwriting and composition, and it’s always interesting to see what those music outlets will come up with next. If you paid attention to our pages in the past, then you’ve probably noticed Chaidura, a London-based artist who definitely stands out from the crowd. Whether with his vocal delivery or by pushing the very limits of sonic and rhythmic performance, Chaidura’s music never ceases to amaze. “Plastic Beauty,” the latest piece of work released on April 10th, exemplifies his dedication to the craft. Serving as a third single from “Liminal,” a highly anticipated extended play scheduled for release this year, it further expands Chaidura’s sound to the uncharted sonic territories. And believe me, this song packs everything you ever needed from modern extreme music. Revolving around the contemporary metalcore structure, as the artist infused all the fundamental elements of the genre, “Plastic Beauty” also blends some of the finest properties borrowed from modern metal, melodic metal, alternative metal, nu metal, noise rock, and even some glitch and electronica. Although it might seem like too many genres for some listeners, do not worry, because Chaidura thoughtfully and skillfully blended all those elements, thinking about everything while assembling vocal, sonic, and rhythmic maneuvers. Lyrically, “Plastic Beauty” is an anthem for anyone who has been judged for their appearance. We are taught to reject the natural in favor of a ‘plastic’ ideal. This track vents that frustration. Being a good human being far outweighs being a good-looking one with a hollow soul. Chaidura promotes individuality over the overly polished appearance, which is often promoted by modern society via social media.
As soon as you press play, you’ll notice a classic alternative metal overture empowered by electronic beats and vocal samples, but all of a sudden, Chaidura shifts his music into much heavier sonic territories by infusing complex, groovy, dynamic rhythmic patterns, heavy guitar riffs, and aggressive vocal performance. You’ll hear how each vocal, sonic, and rhyhtmic maneuver has its place and purpose, amplifying the message Chaidura intends to convey with this song. By deep diving into the song’s structure, you’ll notice that the artist infused many clever arrangements, empowered by brilliant ideas and outstanding musicianship that go far beyond anything you could hear on a contemporary music scene. Chaidura’s versatile vocal performance strikes from all possible sides with all those heavy growls, aggressive shouts and screams, but you’ll also notice how he left more than enough room for calm, soothing, relaxing, whispery vocal lines and melodic chants. This versatility allows him to perfectly articulate and balance all those low, mid, and high notes delivered through synths and guitars. He handles all those ethereal moments perfectly and heavy segments with such precision and finesse, decorating each orchestration while contributing more than necessary emotional depth and complexity over an already intricate structure. By merging complex samples, lush synths, and raw guitar riffs together, Chaidura constructs a perfect backdrop that not only supports his vocal perofrmance but also deliver tremendous power and aggression. Each detail is so carefully implemented that all those layers articulate together without spoiling each other, proving that the artist thought about everything while assembling this piece. The same goes for the rhythm section, which, in this case, offers groovy depth, detail, dynamics, and pace by delivering intricate low ends and hectic rhythmic patterns. Everything is so thoughtfully crafted, making “Plastic Beauty” such a memorable piece worth spinning over again.
By pushing the very limits of metal and alternative music, Chaidura crafts and delivers fine pieces of sonic artistry that break all the rules and shapeshift the boundaries of those genres. His music tackles all the senses, forces you to question everything, and moves you with tremendous sincerity and power. “Plastic Beauty” exemplifies his dedication to the craft, and it is one of those songs that will immediately become a staple of your playlist.
