Built on racing metaphors and late-night momentum, “RACER #23” is a love song about desire, hesitation, and the fear of falling behind. Framed through car imagery and shifting gears, the track captures the feeling of chasing someone who never quite slows down.
Musically, the song lands in a sweet spot for The High Curbs: melodic punk rock with steady drive and just enough restraint to let the hooks breathe. It’s upbeat without being careless, emotional without dragging, paced like a long night drive where everything feels heightened.
“‘RACER #23’ is about wanting someone who moves fast and choosing to jump in anyway,” says frontman Ed Moreno. “It’s buckling up, risking the crash, and admitting that some loves are worth chasing.”
“RACER #23” follows February’s “Promise,” signaling the band’s evolving direction ahead of HIGH SPEED.
Produced by guitarist Taylor Hecocks, HIGH SPEED marks a defining moment for The High Curbs and delivers their most focused, cohesive work to date. For the first time, the album was recorded as it was written, allowing the songs to develop with intention and care rather than under the constraints of live-tracked sessions shaped by budget and time.
The result is a record that balances the raw energy of their earlier work with refined songwriting. Ed Moreno’s vocals and melodies intertwine seamlessly with Taylor’s intricate compositions, creating a consistent thematic thread throughout the album.
Formed in 2013 in Southern California, The High Curbs have built a following in their local underground scene with a sound that blends garage rock intensity and punk energy. The current lineup features Ed Moreno on vocals and guitar, Kenny Huerta on bass, and Taylor Hecocks on guitar.
The High Curbs will be on tour in North America this spring supporting The Red Pears and Together Pangea.

About The High Curbs
The High Curbs have quietly built a dedicated following since their start in 2013, emerging from Southern California with a sound that’s equal parts raw energy and melodic grit. Led by frontman and main contributor Ed Moreno, the band blends garage rock’s intensity with the catchy hooks and punk attitude, crafting songs that feel both immediate and timeless.
From early singles like “Want” to fan-favorite “Always On My Mind,” The High Curbs have created a catalog marked by honest, unpolished songwriting rooted in personal experience. Their music strikes a balance that appeals to punk fans and indie rockers alike, with evocative lyrics and gritty instrumentation that refuse to be easily categorized.
With a lineup including Kenny Huerta and Taylor Hecocks, the band continues to evolve while keeping a DIY mindset at its core. The High Curbs move forward by trusting instinct over trend, shaping a sound that stays grounded while resisting easy labels. With each release, they continue to solidify their place in the Southern California scene and beyond, offering a refreshing and authentic voice in contemporary rock that resonates deeply with listeners who crave both edge and emotion.
