Shoreline Share Excellent Video For “Brittle Bond”

Emo punk/hardcore outfit SHORELINE have released their new album, Is This The Low Point Or The Moment After? on Pure Noise Records.

“Someone in an interview compared the record and its flow to the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance” says singer Hansol Seung.  “It fascinates me that I haven’t seen this parallel myself before. I think we’ve unintentionally written a record about grief, that is still more hopeful than bitter.” 

Along with the album, is track Brittle Bond.  A song which explores looking at friendships that were made in formative years and that have now moved on in different directions, and now accepting and finding peace with the circumstance.

Is This The Low Point Or The Moment After? is a concept album that dares the listener to recall the situations in life when you’ve hit rock bottom and consider if you were able to point out the moment from which things got better again? SHORELINE also ask themselves this question and dedicate an entire album to it.  Their new songs undoubtedly propel the band from Münster to the peak of their creative powers: emo and hardcore meet a newfound passion for alternative rock, smart songwriting, and lyrics that go where it hurts.

“There’s a very clear turning point within this album for me – the lowpoint – if you will, from which the mood and songs start to become more hopeful. When I showed the record to our closest friends, everyone told me a different part that they’ve very clearly identified as the(ir) low point. I think that is in equal parts funny but also beautiful.” says Hansol Seung

While its soundscape is very clearly growing from the new wave of emo/HC bands such as One Step Closer, Arm’s Length Or Koyo, it has unmissable references from the unique clash of alternative music scenes in Germany. 

Is This The Low Point Or The Moment After? is showing off a band that has a very clear vision of what kind of music they wanted to write. Big melodies, heavy riffs, but all rooted in a raw, honest take from a DIY Punk perspective.

The band recently toured with label mates Arm’s Length, KOYO and Ben Quad and will embark on a headline run in the Autumn across the UK and EU. Full dates below:

About the band
Deeply rooted in the DIY hardcore/punk scene, SHORELINE gained a reputation as a rousing live band after countless shows in squats, rehearsal rooms and basement clubs all over the European continent, so that they quickly found themselves opening for scene legends like Basement, Silverstein, Spanish Love Songs or Hot Water Music. 

Previous album, To Figure Out, reflected on heavy political topics such as the climate crisis and animal rights but also touches very personal topics, difficult friendships and love songs.  Produced by Chris Teti at Silverbullet Studios Burlington, CT (among others Anxious, Fiddlehead, The World is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die…) Shoreline not only seamlessly continue their musical originality, but also created their best-sounding record in their career.

Seung (singer) started his journey of self-awareness and empowerment as an Asian-german with the previous record, beginning with an angry bite back towards the racism he experienced growing up in Germany.  With more and more BIPOC showing up at the bands shows, connecting with Asian kids all over the world and sharing experiences, Seung continues the process of self-acceptance and unlearning internalised stereotypes on the new record. 

The record also features long-time friend of the band Chris Cresswell (The Flatliners, Hot Water Music) on the track “Workaround”, completing the sonic aesthetic of the project: respecting and paying tribute to the roots in classic punkrock, but also stepping forward into a new, modern take of the genre. 

SHORELINE represent a young generation, one that cares and one that is ready to tackle the problems of today’s world.
