French metal act Waking The Sleeping Bear roar back with their new EP, Grands maux, grands remèdes – Partie 1. Mixed by Fred Duquesne (Mass Hysteria) and mastered by Thibault Chaumont (Igorrr, Birds in Row), the seven-track release combines crushing riffs, rap phrasing, electronic heaviness, and even brass arrangements into a bold, modern sound. Sung entirely in French, the EP balances groove and aggression with sharp political commentary, tackling fake news, digital alienation, and the rise of fascism. Founded in 2011 and solidified into their current lineup in 2017, WTSB have built a reputation for blending uncompromising metal with socially charged lyrics. With Partie 1, they deliver a manifesto of rage and lucidity, proving French alternative metal still has plenty to say, and plenty to shout.
