Canadian Post-Hardcore Unit Midnight Peg Released New Track “Swallow”

Canadian punk/post-hardcore provocateurs Midnight Peg return August 21 with their blistering new single “Swallow”, the latest glimpse into their upcoming album Skinning. If the sustained, ambient noise that opens the record is the storm cloud, “Swallow” is the lightning strike—an unflinching demolition site of hardcore breakdowns, noise-soaked haze, and lyrical gut punches.

The track’s dreamlike, dust-hung calm is obliterated by distorted chaos and rapid-fire vocals, capturing a grim portrait of emotional repression, alienation, and violent grief—moments when power and identity fracture beyond repair. Recorded by Rob Lawless and Cody Blakely, mixed and co-produced by Blakely at Half Stack Studios, and mastered by Stuart McKillop (Rain City Recorders), “Swallow” follows the searing singles “Thirstland” and “The Hag” and pushes Midnight Peg’s chaotic, experimental energy to new extremes.

With over 20,000 streams on their debut album Horn Colic, glowing coverage from DIY ConspiracyCups N’ Cakes, and Reverie Mag, plus airplay on college radio across Canada, Midnight Peg have cemented themselves as a vital force in the modern underground. In the past year alone, they’ve toured Western Canada with Pussy Riot and shared the stage with punk legends D.O.A.—earning a reputation for genre-bending performances that swing from riotous punk aggression to avant-garde post-punk atmospherics.

Their sophomore album Skinning—set for release October 3, 2025—promises to be their most dangerous and addictive work yet. RANGE describes the band’s sound as “Nods to the fury of early ’90s grunge greats like The Gits while racing ahead on a futuristic bullet train of their own design… pulse-pounding.

Created with gratitude on Treaty 6 Territory — the traditional lands of the nêhiyawak (Cree), Anishinaabe, Niitsitapi (Blackfoot), Métis, Dene, and Nakota Sioux, and other Indigenous Peoples.
