San Francisco Post-Punks Tigers In Cairo Drop Uplifting New Single “My Saving Face”

Making waves in the San Diego rock scene with their layered wall of sound, Tigers In Cairo’s signature blend of punk infused alt rock and atmospheric indie is both nostalgic and modern. The newly formed group, composed of veterans of the SoCal rock scene, returns with “My Saving Face,” an energetic new anthem. The song begins with crackling feedback, before the band kicks into high gear with a crashing beat, high-wattage guitars, and a melodic bass line. Vocalist David Martin makes his presence felt with soaring melodies, with lyrics that speak to fighting against the oppressive wave of loneliness afflicting society. The song culminates in a cathartic fist-pumping chorus, offering a dose of togetherness to lift spirits and inspire action.

“The song is a culmination of various moments in my life when the people I turned to for support were also struggling themselves,” says singer/lyricist David Martin. “Panic and uncertainty can lead people to make irrational decisions that aren’t healthy for them or for those around them. This track touches on some of those moments I’ve witnessed or had projected onto me—especially during times of grief and uncertainty. There isn’t necessarily a solution presented in the lyrics, since everyone reacts to uncertainty differently. Rather, the song serves as a reminder for me (and hopefully you) to check in on your loved ones when times get tough, and be there to support one another.”

In just under a year since their inception, Tigers In Cairo have released four singles, each one offering a different shade of the group’s intensely heavy but melodic sound. Earlier this year, Tigers In Cairo recruited Tobias Grave, frontman of Chicago post-punk outfit Soft Kill, to deliver the atmospheric “In Our Fields.” Last year, the group made a strong first impression with their debut single, “Always Adored,” and follow-up “Wavy Eyes.” All three of the first singles are now available on a limited edition 7”.

With a band name inspired by the Cure’s “Fire In Cairo” and aspiring to embody the ferocity of an apex predator, Tigers In Cairo combines earworm-riffs and progressions with a sharp sense of arrangement into a sound that evokes the ethos of 90’s alt groups like Jawbreaker with the melodic intensity of modern hardcore groups like Militarie Gun and the detail-rich soundscapes of bands like The Cure. Catch the band later this year in Birmingham, Alabama at Furnace Fest.

With much more music on the way, Tigers In Cairo is the local rock supergroup San Diego has been waiting for. Stay tuned for more from the band soon.
