Post-hardcore mainstays By a Thread are set to return with Mirrored Life, their first studio album in 14 years, out September 12 via Spartan Records. Known for their emotionally raw and atmospheric 1999 debut Last of the Daydreams, the Vancouver-based band—helmed by core songwriters Sean Lande and John Franco—have reemerged with a record described as “an anti-pop statement.”
Reuniting with drummer Gabe Mantle (Gob) and adding bassist Carl McBeath after the recording process, By a Thread lean further into moody tempos and reverb-drenched textures, shedding the more radio-friendly aspects of their earlier work. “This is essentially an anti-pop record. It’s meant to feel heavy,” said Franco. “We still feel passionate about our inner and outer worlds.”
Lead single “Void” addresses loneliness in a deteriorating world plagued by consumerism and cognitive dissonance. Listen to it now and pre-order the album via Spartan Records.
