Angel Du$t return today with the news that they’ve joined Run For Cover Records. A perfect match, with one of the most daring and forward-thinking bands in punk/hardcore joining forces with one of modern independent music’s most enduring labels.
Their first material for their new label is out today and a real statement of intent: “The Beat” is a new 7″ single that points the way towards the next chapter in Angel Du$t‘s constant evolution. The songs follow the band’s 2023 album BRAND NEW SOUL (which drew praise from fans and critics alike, including Pitchfork, Stereogum, Uproxx, Kerrang!, Brooklyn Vegan, Consequence, Revolver and many more), and finds Angel Du$t reuniting with producer/engineer Brian McTernan, who recorded their debut album.
The Beat leans into Angel Du$t‘s most biting and aggressive side, combining visceral hardcore with real rock & roll swagger. “The Beat” is a galloping riff factory with guest vocals from Taylor Young of Twitching Tongues, God’s Hate, Deadbody, and Regional Justice Center, and it arrives alongside a fittingly unhinged music video.
While its counterpart “The Knife” is a full-on stomper elevated by psychedelic production flourishes.
The band’s vocalist Justice Tripp discussed joining Run For Cover Records, saying:
“It was just so organic and natural. As long as I’ve been involved with music the RFC people have been friends to me and have been showing me the ropes, but I always kind of thought AD just wasn’t their bag and never thought about asking them about putting out our music. Then when it finally came up it just seemed like the most obvious right fit for us. I just hold them in such a high regard, and stylistically they obviously do a lot of different stuff, but I think it really makes sense: they’re creative, alternative, sometimes heavy – just like Angel Du$t.”
Angel Du$t began as a fresh start for Tripp after his time leading hardcore legends Trapped Under Ice, and after a decade-plus of bold creativity, the band have become a punk rock institution all of their own. Tripp blazed the trail for the current generation of hardcore musicians to experiment and take their self-expression into fearless, catchy, and vulnerable places, and “The Beat” proves that Angel Du$t‘s drive to make authentically aggressive rock & roll truly has no limit.
And if there’s any doubt that Angel Du$t are still marching to their own drum, fans who pick up the 7″ version of the new single will also be treated to a vinyl-only bonus cover of Bugg’s “I Don’t Wanna Hear It” featuring vocals from Terror’s Scott Vogel.
