The Rolling People – Edge Of The Knife

After releasing “Before It’s Gone,” an outstanding Manchester-based group The Rolling People arrives with another fine piece of sonic artistry suitable for anyone who appreciates cleverly assembled and flawlessly performed music. Perhaps this composition serves as a proper continuation of their previous work, but there are many innovations in songwriting, composing, arranging, and producing involved along the way, further improving the sound of this incredible band. Lyrically, “Edge of the Knife” talks about those moments where everything feels like it could fall apart, but somehow you push through. It’s about taking risks and living on the edge of the knife. The band explores various sentiments, moods, situations, and circumstances, making “Edge of the Knife” a highly relatable composition that will resonate with the broader auditorium. Sonically, the band once again merges all those vital ingredients borrowed from several complementary music genres to illustrate luxuriant sonic imagery. You’ll immediately some of the finest properties borrowed from alternative, indie rock, and Britpop lurking around and constructing a pleasant listening experience worth repeating over and over again.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice that The Rolling People poured heart and soul into this fine piece of sonic artistry. There’s so much emotion and sincerity involved, immediately shaping the calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal yet dynamic and groove ambiance that immediately wraps around the listening apparatus and refuses to let go long after this song ends. The exceptional vocal performance acts as a centerpiece, elevating everything to new heights, commanding attention, and guiding listeners through this expansive sonic universe with such precision and finesse. The passionate, soulful, sincere, confident, emotive, and powerful vocal harmonies seamlessly balance low, mid, and high notes, emphasizing everything these creative musicians intended to achieve with this song. Besides decorating every segment and instrumentation, these vocal harmonies also contribute more emotional depth and complexity to an already intricate song structure. You’ll also hear how the additional vocal layers, back vocals, and singalongs give more anthemic vibes while tastefully spicing up particular segments. These vocal additions are subtle, yet still vividly hearable in the mix. In the meantime, the interplay between various guitar layers shapes a perfect backdrop for all the vocals to shine upon. The comprehensive collection of catchy, memorable, engaging leads, themes, melodies, harmonies, chord progressions, riffs, and other sonic maneuvers immensely supports vocal performance while simultaneously crafting a lush soundscape that immediately grabs by the collar and refuses to let go.

An equally impressive, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines rumble beneath all these guitar works offering more than necessary heaviness, clarity, and depth while simultaneously serving as a glue between those mentioned orchestrations and drums. These low-ends are rich, deep, dense, and heavy, offering more power, groove, and detail to the song. In the meantime, the excellent drumming performance based upon all those expertly arranged, flawlessly performed, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics keep the remainder of the band in line while dictating groove and pace. You’ll notice how every hit of the snare, kick of the bass drum, accentuation on the hi-hat, and splash over the cymbal cuts through the ambiance. Every instrument has its place and purpose here, making “Edge of the Knife” even more pleasing to the ears. The Rolling People is one of those bands that never ceases to amaze, so that’s the case with this song as well. They poured heart and soul into this fine piece of sonic artistry, resulting in one of the best alternative rock songs you’ll hear this year. From fascinating vocal harmonies and lush guitar works to profoundly detailed basslines and exceptional rhythmic performance, The Rolling People prove once again that they’re one of those exceptional bands who continuously break all the rules and shapeshift the boundaries of the genre in order to deliver fresh, unique, innovative music to the table. Therefore, head to your favorite streaming platform and listen to the “Edge of the Knife.” It will instantly become a staple on your playlist.
