CITIZEN Announce ‘Everybody Is Going To Heaven’ 10 Year Anniversary Edition LP; Hear Unreleased Track ‘Nail In Your Hand’

2025 marks the tenth anniversary of Citizen releasing their sophomore album, Everybody Is Going To Heaven, and to celebrate they’ve announced a deluxe reissue of the record, due out June 27th from Run For Cover Records.

Everybody Is Going to Heaven marked a bold turning point in Citizen‘s career. Following the breakout success of their debut album Youth, the band could have stayed the course, but instead they doubled down on darker textures, heavier moods, and a fearless sense of experimentation. The reissue pays homage to a landmark record for Citizen and re-contextualizes it alongside their ever-growing discography. It’s also packed with bonus material for fans, like the previously unreleased rarity “Nail In Your Hand” (which is available on streaming for the first time ever today), a brand new version of “Heaviside” reimagined by Wisp, and numerous demos from the making of Everybody Is Going to Heaven.

Released in 2015, Everybody Is Going to Heaven expanded Citizen’s sound beyond their emo and post-hardcore roots, weaving in elements of grunge and alternative rock in unexpected ways. The album captured a raw, unsettled energy that explored mortality, depression, and identity with an honesty that still resonates today. It wasn’t a record built for easy listens—it was built to last.

“Everybody Is Going to Heaven was an interesting time in our lives,” explains Citizen guitarist Nick Hamm. “Youth had caught on in a way that we didn’t expect nor were we prepared for. I think our best bet at a follow-up was something that didn’t attempt to follow it up at all. It reflected our feelings and taste at the time and felt unlike anything else that was happening around us. Looking back, I don’t think anything, even Youth, has bought us the longevity that Everybody is Going to Heaven has. It positioned us as a band that would never release the same album twice and we’re thankful to have an audience that has ridden along with us for the last ten years.”

Now, a decade later, Everybody Is Going to Heaven stands as one of the defining moments in Citizen’s ongoing evolution. It’s a record that challenged both the band and their audience, and helped shape them into the fearless, genre-blurring artists they’ve become. As they celebrate Everybody Is Going to Heaven’s 10th anniversary, Citizen remain deeply committed to growth, refusing to be tied to a single sound or era. Everybody Is Going to Heaven didn’t just mark where they were; it lit the way for everything that came next.

Citizen will be performing at Riot Fest and Furnace Fest this year, along with celebrating Everybody Is Going To Heaven with a one night only album play through show in Detroit. View the band’s full live itinerary HERE.
