Splinter - Get A Job

Get A Job” is the latest release by Splinter, an outstanding English band based in London. It’s their first piece of work this year and a first taster of “Click Swipe Buy,” their upcoming full-length album slated for release in  June 2025. It’s also good to mention that the band released “Thought Distortions” in 2019, a critically acclaimed extended play that you should also check out as soon as possible. Sonically, “Get A Job” and their upcoming album “Click Swipe Buy” criticize consumerism, cliche culture, arms dealing, and the pitfalls of modern dating. In eight tracks, the band covers a decent portion of issues that struck upon modern society. “Get A Job” is a cleverly assembled critique of contemporary employment views, skewering the obsession with fame at any cost, while rejecting the contempt for hard, honest work. The band explores these themes through a healthy serving of good old English wit while still nailing to the point of the problem. Therefore, it’s a highly relatable composition that will immediately resonate with the broader auditorium. For this particular occasion, Splinter built a perfect sonic platform. Their sound is an expertly assembled combination of several complementary music genres, thoughtfully implemented to satisfy even the pickiest listeners. Perhaps punk rock comes to mind first, but you’ll notice some of the finest properties of post-punk, garage, and alternative rock lurking around. They use all these additional sonic ingredients as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to elevate their music to new heights while still remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction. The band continuously levitates between modern and retro sounds, so this composition offers something for everyone.

From the onset, it becomes apparent that Splinter poured heart and soul into this composition. Right from the start, let’s say this is not your ordinary punk rock track. Quite the contrary, the song carries more than necessary rawness, abrasiveness, and grit yet there’s a decent portion of melody and harmony included along the way. The guitars play a significant role here, as they craft a perfect soundscape for all the vocals to shine upon. Those riffs are pretty tight, shining with pleasant fuzziness achieved by stacking multiple layers of distortion over it. Every segment is another barrage of impressive works that define this composition. Yet, they’re more than plain old simple riffs. They’re melodic, harmonious, catchy, memorable, and engaging, pulling the listener even deeper into Splinter’s sonic universe. They force you to pay attention to the meaningful message, delivered by the charismatic vocalist. You’ll notice how soulful, passionate, confident, sincere, and powerful vocal performance uplifts everything to completely another level, with all those high-pitched harmonies that not only emphasize what Splinter intended to achieve with this song but also provide more than necessary emotional depth and complexity over an already intricate song structure. The band also included singalongs during the choruses, giving “Get A Job” more anthemic vibes. Beneath all those impressive guitar works lies incredible low-end support. Splinter perfectly blended guitars and bass, crafting a colossal wall of sound that immediately penetrates your listening apparatus. The bass guitar also provides warmness, clarity, and depth with all those rich, deep, dense, heavy notes. In the meantime, the exceptional drumming performance keeps everything in line while dictating groove and tempo with tastefully arranged, flawlessly performed, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Each instrument has its place and purpose here, making “Get A Job” even more pleasant to the ears.

Splinter has crafted a perfect modern punk rock song that points out the problems of modern society. With clever lyricism and incredible vocal, sonic, and rhythmic performance, they delivered a song that will immediately resonate with anyone who appreciates outstanding musicianship, meaningful message, and knack for superb songwriting and composing. Therefore, you should immediately place “Get A Job” on your music radar. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
