Jefferson Pitcher Returns From The Sonic Wilderness With “The Bellows”

After a fifteen-year hiatus from songwriting, Jefferson Pitcher, the acclaimed indie artist once spotlighted by NPR and Pitchfork, is poised to release The Bellows, a meditative and hauntingly poetic new album that marks his long-awaited return to the singer-songwriter form.

Pitcher’s journey back to songcraft began unexpectedly after years immersed in abstract sound and Deep Listening, guided in part by the late composer Pauline Oliveros. His past decade was one of family, experimentation, and collaboration with artists like Austin Hatch and Nico Protopappas, culminating in an intense ten-day studio session that gave birth to The Bellows.

Layered with lyrical contributions from writer Ben Jahn, the album navigates an imagined world where birds are co-dominant species and home is a feeling rather than a place. Its ten tracks marry alternative textures with indie rock intimacy, shaped by Pitcher’s enduring love for literature and the natural world.
