Ambulanz – II CS (It’s Eleven Records)

II  by Ambulanz exemplifies controlled chaos, a whirlwind of post-punk haste fused with raw punk rock energy and a touch of artful garage grittiness. This seven-inch is a high-voltage shock to the system, a seamless collision of jagged riffs, soaring harmonies, and anthemic urgency that grips you from the first to last note. The interplay between the commanding, shouty lead vocals and the anthemic backing harmonies elevates the record from mere punk rock aggression to something much more than a simple post-punk sound. There’s a noticeable energy in how these voices interweave through the tightly wound compositions, sometimes confrontational, sometimes melodic, but always gripping. They invested so much time and effort in these vocal arrangements, showcasing their tremendous dedication to the craft.

Soundwise, Ambulanz balances between the serrated punk edge and the intricate post-punk textures. The guitar work is a thing of beauty, jangly at one moment, drenched in distortion the next, creating an ever-shifting landscape of melody and dissonance. The band expertly layers its sound, with chord progressions and harmonies colliding into a whirlwind of sonic textures, giving each track a rich and unpredictable depth. The occasional addition of synths, subtle yet undoubtedly present, injects an eerie, atmospheric quality that further expands their sound without ever feeling like a gimmick. Instead of overpowering, these electronic flourishes work in tandem with their core instrumentation, adding a modern edge to the raw punk foundation. The basslines are warm and intricate, providing a sense of weight and clarity that binds the compositions together. There’s an unmistakable groove running through the record, giving even the most aggressive moments a hypnotic, danceable quality. Meanwhile, the drums demonstrate precision and power. Every beat, break, and fill is executed with a detail rarely heard or seen in a genre that often prioritizes rawness over refinement. It’s punk rock played with immense precision, each percussive element dictating groove and tempo with an almost mathematical clarity.

There’s an energy here that refuses to be contained, a continuous push and pull between aggression and craftsmanship. It’s an album that feels alive, constantly shifting, never settling into predictability. Each listen uncovers new layers, whether it’s the way a bassline subtly underpins a vocal melody or the moment a synth line emerges from the chaos to create a fleeting moment of eerie calm before the next sonic assault. Each track has been constructed with a clear sense of purpose. Even the most frenetic moments are expertly arranged, ensuring that no note feels wasted and no transition feels forced. It’s an infectious and energetic record, but because there’s so much to unpack within its deceptively brief runtime. Ambulanz has delivered an album that pays homage to the best traditions of punk rock while pushing the boundaries of what this longevous music genre might be. It’s modern post-punk with a foot firmly planted in its punk rock roots, a sound that continuously levitates between the raw energy and the calculated precision. This record is essential listening. Play it loud, let it take over, and get lost in its ruthless energy. Head to It’s Eleven Records for more information about ordering.
