Big Mountain County Released “Deep Drives” LP

Big Mountain County release their third LP ‘Deep Drives’ today and share two focus tracks: ‘Don’t Know Why’ and ‘Electric Church’.

‘Deep Drives’ is the natural evolution of Big Mountain County’s musical journey, a bold and dynamic expression of the band’s untamed energy and creative vision. With their hands firmly on the artistic wheel, they fully unleash their musical instincts, channelling both their human and musical experiences into a collection of eight tracks that offer an honest, unfiltered reflection of shared visions and emotions. The result is a rich sonic universe, where the interplay of synthetic and analogue sounds is explored with equal spontaneity. A calibrated use of electronic elements intertwines with the raw, unfiltered sounds that have always been at the core of the band’s punk roots. With ‘Deep Drives’, Big Mountain County plunge into the unfathomable depths of the soul, where instincts take the lead. The album traverses a spectrum of emotions, from moments of pure joy and liberation to those of torment, darkness, and desolation, all set against the haunting pull of nocturnal sirens. In the album, tracks like ‘Going Down’, ‘Don’t Know Why’, and ‘No Time to Lose’ stand out as fiery, immediate punk anthems that stay true to the band’s roots. At the same time, songs like ‘Follow Me’ and ‘Last Call’ offer a slower, more relentless rhythm with tribal undertones, where synthetic textures, raw guitars, and a deep, compelling voice intertwine to create something both atmospheric and powerful. There is no shortage of groove in tracks like ‘Electric Church’ and ‘No Solution’, while the electronic influence is fully realized in ‘Bright Black Hole’ and ‘Last Call’, where ‘Deep Drives’ emerges in its full freedom, delivering an authentic catharsis drawn from real-life experience.

After unveiling their latest EP, Klaus, at the New Colossus Festival in New York and SXSW in Austin, the band took a year-long studio break, honing and redefining a distinctive sound that bridges primitive Garage Rock and Neopsychedelia with Electroclash, Kraut and Disco. ROCK SEA

Big Mountain County formed in Rome in 2013 after four southern boys, two from the slopes of Mount Etna and two from the Adriatic Coast, came together. They instantly bonded over a mutual love for The Stooges, MC5, The Velvet Underground, and Joe Spencer, leading to the release of a 7-inch record brimming with raw Garage Rock & Roll. This debut propelled them into an exciting tour across Eastern Europe, hitting countries such as Hungary, Serbia, Croatia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. They soon moved beyond Garage Rock to immerse themselves in the European Neopsychedelic resurgence and spent the following years carving out a reputation in the vibrant continental live scene. They dropped two LPs—Breaking Sound (Gas Vintage Records, 2015) and Somewhere Else (Porto Records, 2020)— along with a live album. After relentlessly touring across Europe and the UK, joining the bills of Sziget Festival, Binic Folk Blues Festival, and opening the Italian tour for Cloud Nothings in 2019, they finally hit the US in 2023, gracing six different venues at SXSW and sharing stages with Osees and Os Mutantes. By the time they returned to Italy, they had secured summer openings for Brian Jonestown Massacre and La Femme. That year’s EP Klaus marked a bold new shift, diving into a more dance-driven and electronic sound. Featuring collaborations with electronic psych producer and LEVITATION DJ in residence Al Lover, along with the distinguished Roman producer Hugo Sanchez, the making of ‘Klaus’ gave the band a revitalising spark, steering them into a new musical direction.
