Bob Dylan Tweets About Attending Nick Cave’s Paris Show, Nick Responds With Gratitude

In one his latest tweets, Bob Dylan recounts his experience attending a Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds concert at the Accor Arena in Paris on November 17.

Dylan tweeted, “Saw Nick Cave in Paris recently at the Accor Arena and I was really struck by that song Joy where he sings, ‘We’ve all had too much sorrow, now it the time for joy.’ I was thinking to myself, yeah that’s about right.”

Nick Cave addressed the moment on his Red Hand Files website. In response to a fan’s question, Cave revealed he had no idea Dylan was in attendance but was deeply moved when friends alerted him to the tweet.

“My phone suddenly lit up as excited friends started sending me Bob Dylan’s tweet,” Cave shared. “I hadn’t known Bob was at the concert, and his tweet was a lovely pulse of joy that penetrated my exhausted, zombied state. It felt admirably perverse, in a Bob Dylan kind of way.”

Cave also reflected on difficult times and the role of music in uniting people:

“The world had grown thoroughly disenchanted, and its feverish obsession with politics… prevented us from experiencing the presence of anything remotely like the spirit, the sacred, or the transcendent – that holy place where joy resides. I felt proud to have been touring with the Bad Seeds and offering, in the form of a rock ‘n’ roll show, an antidote to this despair.”

He ended with a heartfelt thank-you to Dylan:

“I was elated to think Bob Dylan had been in the audience, and since I doubt I’ll get an opportunity to thank him personally, I’ll thank him here. Thank you, Bob!”

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds have had a busy year supporting their latest release, “Wild God.” Fans in North America can look forward to their first tour on the continent in six years, which is set to begin next spring.
