Red Skies Mourning – Myosotis

“Myosotis” is the latest release by Red Skies Mourning, an excellent music outlet based in Baltimore, Maryland. Heavily promoted with tracks such as “See You There,” “Beautiful Things,” “As It Was,” and “Borderline,” it’s a second full-length album arriving after a critically acclaimed self-titled debut. Still, this material carries many innovations in songwriting, composing, arranging, and producing, demonstrating a natural progression of an already incredible solo outlet. Soundwise, Red Skies Mourning incorporates the fundamental elements of several complementary music genres. Perhaps alternative rock comes to mind, but you’ll notice how some of the finest sonic ingredients borrowed from synth rock, synthwave, synth pop, and alternative pop found their way into this sonic equation. These experimentations suit Red Skies Mourning’s music well, as this fascinating singer, musician, and producer navigate all these styles with such precision and finesse. You’ll also notice how he uses all these mentioned elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to elevate this comprehensive collection of songs to new heights while remaining loyal to a modern alternative rock sound. Therefore, these experimentations with different subgenres resulted in a magnificent full-length album that will immediately appeal to even the pickiest listeners.

First of all, this isn’t just an ordinary alternative pop-rock album you stumble upon every day. Quite the contrary, it’s an amalgam of carefully prepared, tastefully composed, and flawlessly performed songs suitable for even those newbies stumbling upon this style of music for the first time. Even if you randomly pick any song off this material, you’ll notice it’s probably a track that should end up on the radio or become a staple on your music playlist. Each segment of every song is properly planned to satisfy even those music enthusiasts who often demand impossible things from bands and artists. Red Skies Mourning thought about everything while writing, composing, arranging, and producing music so every composition arrives with a perfect structure, garnered with many intricate segments, brilliant ideas, and marvelous orchestrations. Still, exceptional vocal performance is the first detail you’ll notice on this ear-appealing vocal journey. Those vocal harmonies command attention and guide the listening apparatus from scratch to finish while decorating everything Red Skies Mourning intended to achieve with this album. The passionate, soulful, sincere, confident, vocal performance emphasizes all the segments and instrumentations, making this sonic journey so enjoyable. Also, the impressive vocal range seamlessly balances low, mid, and high notes, providing emotional depth and complexity to already profoundly intricate songs.

Red Skies Mourning incorporated various instruments and approaches depending on the song’s mood and ambiance. You’ll notice how the interplay between guitars and synths shapes a perfect backdrop for all the vocals to shine upon. The comprehensive collection of arpeggiated and regular chord progressions acts as a foundation while the synth leads, themes, melodies, harmonies, and other sonic maneuvers shine in the limelight. There’s an entire collection of calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal instrumentations lurking around and providing an adequate, otherwordly ambiance that immediately wraps around the listening apparatus and refuses to let go long after this amalgam of ear-appealing song ends. In the meantime, the combination of equally intricate, audible, warm-sounding, organic, and synthetic low-ends rumble beneath all those orchestral layers, providing more than necessary heaviness, clarity, and depth while binding all those synth and guitar maneuvers with rhythmic patterns. Of course, this epic journey wouldn’t be complete without wisely arranged, flawlessly performed, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. These rhythmic sequences and patterns keep the remainder of the orchestrations in line while dictating groove and pace. As you can see, Red Skies Mourning thought about even the tiniest details and nuances, proving he’s a highly skillful songwriter, composer, musician, and producer capable of delivering emotionally resonant alternative pop-rock songs.

The best part about “Myosotis” is how each track differs but together they work as a cohesive whole. For example, the introductory piece “Already Know” and “Over And Outta Here” shine with some of the finest alternative rock instrumentations while songs like “Borderline,” “Obvious,” “Alone Nowhere,” “How Do I Sleep,” “Under Your Sleep,” “Satellite,” and “Hold Me Back” resonate with the fundamentals of retro nostalgic and modern pop. Still, there are tracks showcasing Red Skies Mourning’s admiration towards synthwave, synthpop, and new wave like “Listen To Me,” “Way Up,” “See You There,” “Call It A Day,” “Mirror,” and “Let Me Fade.” Each one of these compositions is a standout in its own right, making this piece of the puzzle called “Myosotis” complete. It’s an exceptional album that unquestionably demonstrates all the brilliance, creativity, talent, skills, experience, and knowledge of an incredible artist, who knows his direction and proudly exposes all his abilities as one of the greatest songwriters on the contemporary music scene. With brilliant ideas and marvelous instrumentations pervading from all possible sides, “Myosotis” is one of those albums that immediately grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go long after the last note and beat fade away. You should immediately place it on your music radar. “Myosotis” is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
