Daph Veil – I Don’t Need You (Someday)

I Don’t Need You (Someday)” is a debut composition by Daph Veil, a brand-new studio project of Paula Laubach, a profoundly creative artist based in Austin, Texas. This might be her debut track but all the experience, knowledge, skills, talent, and ideas shine through every vocal, sonic, and rhythmic maneuver. Soundwise, Daph Veil combines many different but complementary music genres to illustrate such a rich and luxurious sound. Perhaps darkwave comes to mind first, but you’ll notice how some of the finest properties borrowed from new wave, shoegaze, dream pop, indie pop, and indie rock found their way into this sonic equation. Paula Laubach uses all these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to elevate her debut composition to new heights while simultaneously remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with many different but complementary styles resulted in a catchy, engaging, memorable song that will immediately resonate with even the pickiest music enthusiasts and beyond.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how Paula Laubach thought about even the tiniest details and nuances while writing, composing, arranging, and producing her debut. She performed all the instrumentations, except drums, played by Jeff Conner. With the initial notes and beats, it becomes apparent that “I Don’t Need You (Someday)” carries a perfect structure, garnered with many intricate segments, brilliant ideas, and outstanding orchestrations. You’ll immediately notice how Laubach’s passionate, sincere, confident, and powerful vocal performance gives more emotional depth and complexity to an already detailed track. Her impressive vocal range seamlessly balances low, mid, and high notes, emphasizing everything she wanted to achieve with it. Of course, these vocal maneuvers also command attention and guide the listening apparatus from scratch to finish while emphasizing all the segments and instrumentations. In the meantime, the arpeggiated chord progressions serve as a perfect backdrop that immensely supports all those vocal harmonies. The jangly, clean, high-pitched guitars work to the advantage of “I Don’t Need You (Someday)” by offering a calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal ambiance that immediately wraps around the listener and refuses to let go even after the song ends. You’ll also notice delicate yet vividly hearable synths and keys lurking around. These themes, melodies, harmonies, and ambiances spice things up and elevate this fine piece of sonic artistry to an entirely new level.

“I Don’t Need You (Someday)” wouldn’t sound this good without a rock-solid rhythm section. You’ll hear how all those complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines lurk beneath guitar and synths, offering more heaviness, clarity, and depth while binding all those orchestrations with drums. Jeff Conner’s excellent drumming performance is based upon tastefully assembled, flawlessly performed, well-accentuated, moderate beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics keeping everything in line while dictating groove and tempo. If the guitar and synths offer an adequate backdrop for all vocals to shine upon, then the rhythm section is a backbone that holds all those orchestrations together. As you can see, Daph Veil thought about everything while writing, composing, arranging, and producing her debut track. “I Don’t Need You (Someday)” is a fine piece of sonic artistry, expertly assembled and flawlessly performed to satisfy even the pickiest listeners. It breaks all the rules, shapeshifts boundaries, and offers a whole new take on a longevious music genre such is darkwave. The innovative, fresh, unique approach showcases Paula Laubach’s exceptional musicianship, creativity, skills, and ideas, positioning her as a standout on the contemporary darkwave scene. “I Don’t Need You (Someday)” is one of those songs you surely don’t want to miss, as it carries some of the finest instrumentations and ideas you’ll hear in a while. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
