Great Australian Bank Released New Album ‘To The Dry’

“This is a huge statement piece for the band. It’s our biggest release so far.”

After releasing three colossal singles in 2024 (‘In Your Eyes’, ‘What They Did’ and ‘Don’t Call Me’), Great Australian Bank are now ready for the release of their debut full-length ‘To The Dry’. A blistering collection of tracks, each more affecting than the last, it’s a formidable body of work that tackles overarching themes of nationalism, capitalism and racism.

“All the songs on ‘To The Dry’ touch on nationalism, identity and change in so-called Australia. Each song goes into these themes in different ways, and while most of them are critical of Australian-borne larrikinism and masculinity, all the songs are ultimately about people in this country, and how identity tends to get reconciled with – or chafed against – change when it inevitably comes about.”Tass Coomber, Great Australian Bank

Great Australian Bank have defined for themselves a sound. A thick, beating, palpable sound built on foundations of angular post-punk guitar tones and guttural Aus rock. They stand alone in today’s musical landscape for their unique take on these genres and how they’ve moulded them to their updated and relevant format. Throughout the album you can expect thundering drums, commanding guitars, and crushing vocals, all delivered with the guts and conviction of a band with something to say. And while the album has power, it remains decidedly melodic, and it’s this duality that has become an integral part of their identity as a band.

While formed in Melbourne in 2019, the band originally consisted of an all-Tassie expat line-up. Vocalist Tass Coomber moved to Naarm after a brief stint in Perth and started the band together with old friend and guitarist Pat Fielding. From there they enlisted Alex Raw on drums and former bassist Alex Barnett. They underwent some minor line-up changes before landing on Saskia Clapton (The Maggie Pills) for bass duties.

“A lot of the songs on the album were written over a couple of years prior to its release. So from a sentimental standpoint, it feels a bit like past chapters of my life are embedded into the record.”Tass Coomber, Great Australian Bank

The album was recorded at Head Gap Studios in Preston. It was produced, recorded and mixed by Rohan Sforcina, with mastering by Lachlan Carrick.

Since their inception, Great Australian Bank have earned themselves a loyal and devoted fanbase, high praise for their electric live shows, and ongoing support from radio such as RTRFM, PBS, 2SER, RRR, Radio Adelaide, 4ZZZ and 2XX.
