Stonebride – Smiles Revolutionary LP (PDV)

Croatian stoner rock band Stonebride has returned with a masterful new album, “Smiles Revolutionary,” a six-track effort that showcases the band’s evolution and maturity. This album is a mesmerizing sonic journey that deftly blends the fundamentals of stoner rock with desert rock, southern rock, psychedelic rock, grunge, and hard rock. The result is an expertly arranged, flawlessly performed, and deeply soulful rock ‘n’ roll sound that will captivate any listener. “Smiles Revolutionary” exemplifies Stonebride’s skill in fusing various genres into a cohesive and thrilling whole. This band has always been known for its ability to incorporate diverse influences, and this album is no exception. The experimentation with different yet complementary music genres has led to their best work to date. Each track on the album is an adequate showcase of their ability to tastefully blend calm, soothing sections with raw, abrasive riffs, creating a dynamic listening experience.

The guitars on this album are a standout feature, moving effortlessly between ethereal, semi-distorted chord progressions and heavily distorted, fuzzy riffs. This interplay between the melodic and the heavy is handled with precision, creating a rich luxurious soundscape worth repeating over and over again. The guitar work is complemented by intricate, warm-sounding basslines that provide the necessary heaviness and depth, anchoring the songs and giving them a solid foundation. The vocals on “Smiles Revolutionary” are mesmerizing, soulful, and sincere. They serve to emphasize every segment and instrumentation, adding an emotional depth that resonates throughout the album. The sincerity in the vocals is noticeable, making each song feel personal and heartfelt. This emotional connection is a key aspect of what makes the album so irresistible.

The drumming on the album is another highlight, showcasing an impressive range of rhythmic patterns. All these expertly arranged beats, breaks, fills, and percussive acrobatics add a layer of complexity and sophistication to the music. The drumming goes beyond mere accompaniment, driving the songs forward and adding to the overall intensity and energy of the album. “Smiles Revolutionary” delivers a sense of maturity, evident in every aspect of the album. The evolution of each band member is clear, as their performances shine from start to finish. This maturity is not just in the technical skill displayed but also in the emotional depth and complexity of the songs. The band has taken bits and pieces from their previous efforts and created something that feels fresh, diverse, and unique, yet unmistakable. The album is their most personal material to date, with lyrics that explore themes of personal and political significance. The lyrics delve into the struggles and search for connections that come with middle age, offering a poignant reflection on the human condition. This personal touch adds another layer of depth to the album, making it not just a collection of songs, but a cohesive narrative.

This album represents a creative upgrade for the band, showing that they are not content to rest on their laurels but are constantly pushing themselves to explore new musical territories. The creative process behind the album has led to a refreshment of their passion and ambition, resulting in what could be considered their magnum opus. “Smiles Revolutionary” is a must-listen for every stoner rock fan. Stonebride showcases their brilliance and maturity through each moment of every song. The band’s ability to blend various genres into a cohesive and compelling whole, combined with their emotional depth and technical skill, makes this album a standout release. The vinyl record, available via PDV Records, exemplifies their commitment to the craft and desire to create meaningful and memorable music. “Smiles Revolutionary” captures their growth, struggles, and triumphs, making it a deeply personal and profoundly moving work. Stonebride has truly outdone itself with this release, cementing their place as one of the premier regional bands in the stoner rock genre.
