Double Deüce – Warm Ham In A Foreign Home

Warm Ham In A Foreign Home” is the latest full-length by Double Deüce, a NYC-based duo of Angela Carlucci and Toby Goodshank. The album carries eleven songs, with singles like “Pig Walnut,” “Mr. Hollands Wine,” and the title track already being out. Soundwise, Double Deüce combines fundamentals of anti-folk with some of the finest properties borrowed from many complementary music genres like alt-folk, art-rock, acoustic rock, and other similar styles. They use all these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift their songs on an entirely new level while simultaneously remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with many complementary styles resulted in a comprehensive collection of catchy, memorable, cheerful tracks that will immediately grab your attention.

As soon as you press play, you’ll immediately notice how Double Deüce nurtures a much more polished sound compared to the early noughties anti-folk scene. They thoroughly planned every vocal and sonic maneuver, ensuring all these tracks resonate with many memorable moments. Of course, the vocals play a significant role in this sonic equation, and they act as a centerpiece of each song. The impressive vocal range and carefully planned vocal harmonies command attention and guide the listener through this mesmerizing vocal journey. The perfect balance between low, mid, and high notes emphasizes all the segments and instrumentations, and it’s nearly mindblowing how their voices match harmoniously. In the meantime, acoustic and semi-distorted electric guitars act as an adequate backdrop for their vocals to shine upon. Double Deüce usually relies upon cleverly assembled chord progressions, but you’ll also notice more intricate themes, melodies, and harmonies. They also included many guest appearances, so you’ll hear some additional instrumentations like trumpets, percussions, and beats.

Double Deüce thought about everything while writing, composing, arranging, recording, and producing their debut album. Each composition arrives with a perfect structure, stacked with many segments and brilliant vocal/sonic performance. Their music transcends anti-folk cliches by delivering some fresh, innovative, unique ideas and excellent musicianship. You’ll also notice some explorations into hip-hop, and it’s one of those genres that perfectly suits them. They also lean much more towards indie rock, psych-pop, and art punk at some points, but they remain loyal to the primary sonic direction from scratch to finish, proving they’re a versatile duo who knows how to incorporate many styles in their music without losing essence and signature moves. “Pig Walnut,” “Warm Ham (In A Foreign Home,” “New Dutch Folk,” “Snap Backwards,” “Mr. Holland’s Wine,” “That’s Our Thing,” and “The Spotter” are standouts, but you should pay attention to the entire material because this album sounds superb from beginning to end. Double Deüce are reinventing anti-folk in a very clever and beautiful way, and their songs will immediately become your go-to whenever you crave this style. You can purchase “Warm Ham In A Foreign Home” via their Bandcamp page or listen to it on all streaming platforms from May 31st. Don’t miss this gem!
