“Falling For You” is the latest song by Sweet Unrest, an outstanding London-based quartet. It’s their third song this year, arriving as a perfect follow-up of “Years Ago” and “Peace Of Mind,” two excellent tracks you should also check out. This particular single announces their first vinyl release on the brand new record label, No Distance Records. Soundwise, Sweet Unrest nurtures a fresh and unique sound by combining several complementary genres. Perhaps alternative rock comes to mind first, but you’ll also notice how some of the finest properties borrowed from grunge, indie rock, classic rock, and Britpop found their way into this sonic equation. Sweet Unrest is one of those bands who thoroughly planned their sonic direction, so they perfectly measure each style and apply it over an alternative rock base to illustrate such a rich and luxurious sound. Therefore, “Falling For You” will undoubtedly appeal to anyone even remotely into the mentioned music genres.
They also thought about everything while assembling this song. You’ll hear how “Falling For You” arrives with a cleverly assembled structure, garnered with many segments and excellent instrumentations. They even thought about even the tiniest details and nuances. As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how the expertly arranged interplay between rhythm and lead guitar shapes the lush ambiance. The marvelous arpeggiated and regular chord progressions and heavily distorted riffs resonate on one side while the other offers subtle melodies, harmonies, and accentuations. All these instrumentations serve as a perfect backdrop for vocals to shine upon. Of course, the outstanding vocal performance acts as a centerpiece, emphasizing everything the band tried to achieve with this track. The perfect balance between low, mid, and high notes commands attention and guides listeners from scratch to finish. Also, it’s nearly mindblowing how these guitars and vocals work together harmoniously during each segment.
In the meantime, the equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines roar beneath all those guitar layers, offering more than necessary heaviness, depth, and clarity. Besides contributing to the heaviness of the song, this particular instrument also binds all the mentioned instrumentations with drums. This composition wouldn’t sound this good without exceptional drumming performance built upon moderate, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. The experienced drummer dictates groove and tempo while keeping everything in line, allowing the remainder of the band to provide their best performance. Every member plays a significant role, and it’s nearly mindblowing how Sweet Unrest works as a whole. From vocal and guitar performances to the dynamics offered by the rock-solid rhythm section, these experienced musicians delivered one of the best love songs this year. Their ability to sound subtle but powerful at the same time makes them one of the most innovative bands in the game. Therefore, you should give this song a spin and keep an eye on Sweet Unrest, because I am positively sure they’ll deliver more marvelous numbers soon. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
