Wexford – Change Your Mind

Change Your Mind” is one of the latest singles by Wexford, a Sandusky, OH-based band. It’s their first track this year, serving as a follow-up to “OK Suburbia,” an excellent debut full-length album released in 2022. Still, Wexford introduces many innovations in songwriting, composing, arranging, and producing. Soundwise, the band combines many different but complementary music genres to illustrate such rich and luxurious sonic imagery. Perhaps alternative rock comes to mind first, but you’ll notice how they incorporated some of the finest properties of melodic punk rock, post-hardcore, emo, indie rock, grunge, and many more. They use all these sonic ingredients as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift their new track on an entirely new level while remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with different but complementary music genres resulted in a magnificent track that will appeal to your listening apparatus no matter which music genre you prefer.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice that the vocals play a significant role in this sonic equation. The lead vocalist commands attention by expertly gliding over low, mid, and high notes, emphasizing all the segments and orchestrations. These ear-appealing vocal harmonies not only decorate all the instrumentations but also retain the attention of the listeners from scratch to finish. You’ll also hear how the back vocals and singalongs improve and uplift particular moments and choruses. Both lead and additional vocal maneuvers sound divine from scratch to finish, adding a touch of complexity to the mix. Wexford also thought about the guitars, which in this case, offer a perfect backdrop for all the vocal articulations. The cleverly arranged interplay between rhythm and lead guitars creates an already mentioned rich and luxurious ambiance, making this track such an enjoyable listening experience. You’ll hear how the rhythm guitar bursts with powerful, heavily distorted chord progressions and riffs on one side, while the lead guitar offers ear-appealing octaves, themes, melodies, and harmonies on the other. It’s nearly mindblowing how vocals and guitars articulate together harmoniously.

In the meantime, the equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines roar beneath all these guitar layers, offering more than necessary heaviness, clarity, and depth. This particular instrument also acts as a glue by binding guitars with drums. The outstanding drumming performance propels all the instrumentations with energetic, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics while simultaneously keeping the remainder of the orchestrations in line. Everything sounds top-notch from beginning to end, proving Wexford are an experienced band that thinks about even the tiniest details and nuances. They thoroughly planned the song structure, so you’ll notice how every segment arrives packed with brilliant ideas and exceptional musicianship. Wexford is unquestionably one of those bands you should pay attention to, and “Change Your Mind” is a more than perfect introductory piece to their sound. You should check it out immediately if you’re into any of the mentioned genres. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
