Crown The King – Start It Over

Start It Over” is the latest single by Crown The King, an exceptional Dublin-based quartet. It’s the anthemic pop-punk track and their first piece of work this year, serving as an adequate follow-up to “Cut My Losses,” “Feeling This,” and “Groundhog Day;” three outstanding singles released in 2023. Still, “Start It Over” carries many innovations in songwriting, composing, and producing, offering a nostalgic pop-punk sound of the early noughties with a vividly hearable touch of a contemporary sound. Of course, Crown The King also included some sonic ingredients borrowed from classic melodic punk rock, indie rock, and emo, expanding their musical vocabulary to the max. These additional elements uplift their already rich and luxurious sonic landscape on an entirely new level while the band remains loyal to the primary sonic direction, providing a magnificent sound that will appeal to your ears no matter which pop-punk era you prefer.

You’ll immediately notice how the exceptional vocal performance steals the show in this sonic equation. The flawlessly executed balance between low, mid, and high notes emphasizes all the segments and decorations while the back vocals push this track to a new level during particular moments and choruses. The singalongs enhance the song, and “Start It Over” has anthemic properties thanks to these vocal articulations. The guitars play a significant role in this fine piece of sonic artistry by delivering an adequate sonic landscape, backing up the mentioned vocal performance to the max. You’ll hear how the interplay between rhythm and lead guitars shapes a rich and luxurious ambiance that is omnipresent in each section of this track. Don’t be surprised if you stumble upon tastefully assembled, expertly recorded, heavily distorted chord progressions and riffs on one side while the catchy, hypnotic, addictive, ear-appealing themes, melodies, and harmonies shine on the other. These dualities sound divine from scratch to finish.

Of course, Crown The King thought about the rhythm section, and the bass guitar rumbles beneath all those guitar layers, offering a more than necessary heaviness, depth, and clarity. It’s also good to mention that this particular instrument also glues guitar and drums together. This song wouldn’t sound this good without exceptional drumming performance based upon moderate, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. The drummer dictates groove and tempo but also keeps the remainder of the orchestrations in line. Crown The King planned the entire song structure, so you’ll notice how every segment arrives with many brilliant ideas and mind-blowing musicianship. Every vocal, sonic, and rhythmic maneuver is solely responsible for such a marvelous sound. These folks uplifted the modern pop-punk sound to a new level. They break the rules and shapeshift boundaries and are not afraid to experiment until they achieve a desired sound that will appeal to anyone even remotely into the genre. You should put this track on your radar if you’re looking for catchy, amazing, wisely constructed pop-punk music. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
