Shining Nothing – Heavy

Heavy” is a recently released single by Shining Nothing, a Chicago-based garage rock group. It’s their first single in 2024, serving as an adequate follow-up to “Enough,” another excellent song released last year. Still, you’ll notice many innovations in songwriting, composing, and producing. Soundwise, perhaps Shining Nothing explore the vast garage rock universe, but you’ll notice how their music transverses many musical realms. Therefore, don’t be surprised if you stumble upon some of the finest properties borrowed from alternative, indie rock, indie pop, and pop rock. These additional elements enhance their music on an entirely new level while the group simultaneously remains loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with many different but complementary music subgenres resulted in a mesmerizing composition that will appeal to even the pickiest rock fans and beyond.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice layers of cleverly arranged instrumentations. Shining Nothing are not joking around with their music, and that’s vividly hearable from scratch to finish. These experienced musicians are pros in assembling catchy, hypnotic, addictive tracks where the calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal atmosphere immediately draws you in and refuses to let go. They thought about the song structure, so you’ll hear how every segment arrives with many beautiful instrumentations. Of course, the guitars play a significant role in this sonic equation. The interplay between rhythm and lead guitars acts as a backdrop for the vocal performance. You’ll notice how the rhythm guitar delivers catchy, tastefully assembled, semi-distorted chord progressions while the lead guitar emits marvelous themes, leads, melodies, and harmonies. In the meantime, the exceptional vocal performance keeps the listener’s attention by balancing low, mid, and high notes with ease. These vocal harmonies also decorate all the segments and instrumentations, making “Heavy” such an enjoyable piece worth repeating over and over again.

Of course, Shining Nothing thought about the other instrumentations, so you’ll hear how the keys and synth add more melodic layers, improving the complexity of the song. The bass guitar roars right beneath the layers of guitars and keys, offering more than necessary heaviness, clarity, and depth. This instrument also binds all the mentioned orchestrations with the drums. The excellent drumming performance dictates groove and pace with expertly performed, wisely arranged, moderate, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Everything sounds superb from the begining to the end, making Shining Nothing one of the best rock bands nowadays. “Heavy” deserves your attention because it differs from anything you can currently hear on garage, alternative, indie, and pop scenes. They merged all the finest elements and ultimately succeded in creating their signature, majestic, otherwordly sound. “Heavy” will become your go-to track whenever you need marvelous rock music. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
