Luke Tangerine & Modal Split – Departure

A prolific Frankfurt-based musician, composer, and artist, Luke Tangerine, returns with more exceptional music. This time, he has teamed up with Modal Split, his fellow Frankfurt natives, for a new number called “Departure.” This particular composition signifies a slight shift in a different sonic direction but with Tangerine’s recognizable signature touch. Unlike the remainder of his works, “Departure” dominantly resonates with modern drum and bass structure, decorated with percussive elements of jungle, dream pop atmosphere, synth wave, and synth-pop sonic maneuvers. It’s a wisely curated amalgam of many different but complementary styles that work like a charm altogether. Both Luke Tangerine and Modal Split invested their jaw-dropping experience, skills, talent, and musicianship, resulting in an immensely energetic and profoundly melodic composition that will appeal to all drum and bass, jungle, and synthwave fans.

As usual, Luke Tangerine thoroughly planned everything. “Departure” showcases a tastefully arranged song structure decorated with complex segments and flawlessly recorded instrumentations. As soon as you press play, you’ll notice energetic beats, assembled in a traditional drum and bass/jungle style. These rhythmic sequences propel all the instrumentations forward, making “Departure” as fast, catchy, and danceable as possible. Luke Tangerine and Modal Split carefully implemented all the elements, so you’ll notice many nuances, details, and accentuations within this complex rhythmic structure. They also implemented many breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics, making this track a pleasant voyage for everyone interested in perfectly produced and arranged drums. Of course, they also prepared low-ends in a traditional style, so you’ll notice how semi-distorted sub-basses lurk beneath all the vocal articulations, melodies, harmonies, sequences, and ambiances. Despite being such a liquid drum and bass track, these low-end notes are powerful, adding more heaviness, clarity, and depth to the mix.

Luke Tangerine and Modal Split fully stacked this track with some of the best leads, themes, melodies, and harmonies you’ll ever hear in electronic music. There are layers and layers of tastefully assembled synths, acting as an orchestral support for everything these acts tried to convey through their collaborative effort. Decorated by rotary and delay effects, chord progressions serve as a backdrop alongside mesmerizing ambient sequences. In the meantime, the themes and leads sky-rocket this track on an entirely new level, enhancing the exceptional vocal performance. Speaking about the vocal performance, these calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal vocal harmonies come like a cherry on top, emphasizing all the segments and instrumentations. Those with good ears will notice two vocal channels, each singing in lower and higher octaves. These vocal maneuvers give a more harmonious, marvelous, divine touch to an already ear-appealing composition.

Luke Tangerine and Modal Split nailed this song. It carries all the vital elements of all the music genres they explore, plus some extra sonic delicacies and surprises along the way. “Departure” deserves your attention because it carries all the elements of modern music but also touches the base of mid-nineties sound. It will immediately end up on your playlist. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
