Oli Barton – It’s Over Now

It’s Over Now” is the latest single by Oli Barton, a London-based singer-songwriter. It’s the first single in 2024 and an adequate follow-up to “Pipe Dream,” an exceptional full-length album released last year. Still, a new number showcases many innovations in songwriting, composing, arranging, and producing. Soundwise, Oli Barton combines a singer-songwriter approach with some of the finest properties borrowed from different but complementary music genres. Perhaps indie rock comes to mind first, but you’ll notice how some sonic ingredients borrowed from indie pop, Britpop, new wave, and alternative found their way into this fine piece of sonic artistry. He uses all these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift his latest single on an entirely new level, while simultaneously staying loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with different but complementary music genres resulted in a mesmerizing composition that will appeal to even the pickiest fans of indie music.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how much time and effort Oli Barton invested in this song. His outstanding vocal performance serves as a centerpiece, emphasizing all the segments and instrumentations. These marvelous vocal harmonies balance between low, mid, and high notes, decorating everything he tried to achieve with this song. His musical abilities go beyond comprehension so many times throughout the entire track. You’ll notice how nearly funky chord progressions serve as a perfect backdrop for the mentioned vocal maneuvers, while the tasteful leads, themes, melodies, and harmonies add a touch of complexity. The guitars shine from scratch to finish, and it’s nearly mindblowing how these instrumentations match his vocal performance. He also thought about low-ends, and you’ll notice how equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines offer more than necessary heaviness, depth, and clarity, but also act as a binding element between guitars and drums. The excellent drumming performance dictates groove and pace by delivering many cleverly arranged, well-accentuated, moderate beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Every instrument sounds top-notch during the entire number.

You’ll notice how much attention Oli Barton paid to everything. He thoroughly planned the entire structure by adding many detailed segments supplemented with magnificent musicianship. He poured all his skills, talent, and ideas into “It’s Over Now,” and his efforts resulted in an addictive, hypnotic, catchy, ethereal, ear-appealing song that will instantly become part of your indie playlist. Oli Barton and his music unquestionably deserve your utmost attention, and “It’s Over Now” exemplifies his ability to breathe fresh air into contemporary indie music. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
