Order Of Owls – What Becomes

Order Of Owls are back with another excellent track that will appeal to even the pickiest alternative rock fans. “What Becomes” is their first single in 2024 and an adequate follow-up of “Speak Up” and “Freedom(ination),” two excellent songs these Melbourne-based rockers released last year. For those who missed my writings about “Speak Up”, Order Of Owls almost solely rely upon modern alternative rock elements, but don’t be surprised if you stumble upon many different but complementary music genres. They continuously lean towards grunge, garage rock, hard rock, modern metal, and nu metal side but remain in alternative rock waters. Their music sounds modern, fresh, and unique, but they left room for some nostalgia, so there are no doubts that “What Becomes” will suit die-hard alternative rock fans and beyond.

Like their previous compositions, this one also has a perfect structure, carrying segments with many exciting instrumentations. As usual, guitars reign supreme with generous servings of distortion applied for a more aggressive, heavy, powerful ambiance. Order Of Owls cleverly assembled these heavily distorted riffs so they arrive like a colossal wall of well-articulated noise. Both guitar players have full control over their instruments, and you’ll also hear how they duel for dominance when the lead guitar emits themes, melodies, and harmonies on one side, while the rhythm keeps things tight with heavy chord progressions and riffs on the other. They achieve a rich and luxurious ambiance which serves as a perfect backdrop for an outstanding vocal performance. You’ll also notice how clean and distorted singing techniques perfectly match with those heavily distorted guitars. Together, they lead listeners on this epic rock journey, retaining the attention till the end.

Of course, “What Becomes” wouldn’t sound good without flawlessly executed low-end notes, which simultaneously offer immense support to guitars and contribute to the massiveness of the rhythm section. These basslines perfectly align with all the riffs, but you’ll also hear all the warm-sounding notes lurking beneath. The exceptional drumming performance adds more richness by delivering continuous splashing over the cymbals, while the moderate, well-accentuated rhythmic sequences dictate groove and pace from beginning to end. The drummer skillfully keeps the remainder of the band in line with his tremendous performance, which unquestionably serves as the backbone of the song. Order Of Owls thought about the overall sound, so “What Becomes” arrives with a quality that meets all the trends in contemporary music production.

“What Becomes” has everything you ever needed from a modern alternative rock track. From excellent vocal and guitar performance to powerful rhythm section, Order Of Owls doesn’t joke around with their music. They set the bar high from the start, proving that alternative rock music can still sound fresh and exciting. Their latest track showcases their ability to breathe some fresh air into the genre, and there are no doubts they’re one of the best new alternative rock bands on the worldwide scene. Check out “What Becomes” as soon as possible. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
